I am wondering ... has anyone's band given them an estimate as to how many dance songs they will actually be playing or how much time guests are actually dancing? I am trying to pick songs from the Band's list. Between dinner and courses and introductory dances etc., I'm wondering how many songs I need to select. Anyone know this?

My 'guesstimate' would be to plan for a good 90 minutes of dancing. Figuring the remainding 150 minutes (of a four hour ceremony) would be for dinner and 'cake cutting & first dance' type things.
That would equal about 25-30 songs.
Good luck!

I don't really remember. My band only needed us to pick only 4 songs (1st dance, spotlight dance, father/daughter and mother/son) and they did the rest - I'm glad I didn't have to give them a list. They played the most recent songs and Italian songs.
But I think it depends on the band - ours played the whole song. And I have heard other bands only play part of the song (not complete song).

I was wondering the same thing. I wasn't sure with the breaks they take and stuff. I just e-mailed them the songlist with plenty of extra songs so they would have more than enough to pick from. I know they won't get thru all of them but at least they won't run out of songs we love.

Don't forget most places are not allowed to play 'dance' music while the courses are being served. That takes away from the actual dancing... also: announcements, cake cutting, vienese hour, parent dances, speeches, garter and bouquet tosses. I have actually realized after my wedding and lots of others after..that there is really not that much time to actaully dance!

EXACTLY my point! This is why I said only 25-30 songs. People get so tied up doing other things... they don't realize that time flies. My last wedding I did... I had a nice packed dancefloor once the couple wanted me to start 'the dance music'. From that point till the end of the night... it was about an hour and a half of dancing.
