How many to invite?

How many to invite?

Hello brides!
My min. is 160 and we are inviting 170. We booked a band and since we don't want it to get too cramped we want to not really exceed 160. I know they say to invite a lot over what you actually want. How many people are you inviting compared to your min. number? If you are married already, how many guests came vs. the number you invited. TIA!

The number I've heard is that about 20% will RSVP no. But that can vary a lot on an individual basis... it'll depend on how many out-of-towners you have, your wedding date, etc. Will you be unhappy if you have less than 160? If so, consider having a B-list for invites. Once you have 10 no's, you can send out additional invites to fill the places.

we invited 219 for a 165 min... we are already down to only a possible 179 and still waiting on about 50 responses.... some we knew would be nos and lots invited with guests opted not to bring one and others we def. thought would come cant because of various other reasons
so basically you never know

Hi! I asked my married friends the same questions because my list is crazy (started at 150 and we're ending up sending out for 253!!). Luckily our halls max is 250. We're expecting no more than 230 (even though I'd like a lot less!)

Everyone I asked gave me a range between 15-30 nos(actually one person said they only had 5 nos). All of them had at least 4 people who said yes but didn't show for whatever reason.

We invited 318 with a 225 minimum and we're having a problem meeting that minimum. And we do NOT have a lot of OOTers. We're at about a 30% 'no' rate - so it's really hard to tell.

we invited over 300 for a 200 minimum and even that was a stretch...

They say typically 20% rsvp NO.

We have a 150 person minimum and we are inviting about 220.

Re: How many to invite?

Thanks ladies. We do have a B list and I am hoping that people let us know early if they can't make it so the B listers get invites in a reasonable time frame. I sent out my save the dates this week. Did anyone get feedback from people saying they won't be attending when the got their save the dates?

our min. is 130 and we have 176 on the guest list. We are hoping we get somewhere between 140-150 because our venue has this little corner that we are trying to avoid putting tables into because you can't really see anything from over there. As long as we are under 160 we are good.

We invited 190 for a 150 min... FH is petrified we are not going to hit the min... i think he is out of his mind!!!

Our min is 200. I wanted to invite 230, but with the 20% rate I am not sure if we will make the min so I moved it up to 250.

Just so you know, i invited 160 people and only 114 RSVPed yes (and about 18 people have yet to respond) ....

you should probably invite close to 200 guests in order to get to your 160 minimum.

BUT that also depends on the amount of out-of-town guests you're inviting.

B careful with this because it doesnt always pan out the way you hoped for....only 5 people couldnt make my wedding so I was glad that I didn't go nuts and invite over my min. You could always send out invites early and as you get them back with people saying no send out more invites to more people. Does that make sense??? LOL

This is what I'm afraid of! The same thing happend to a friend of mine, she invited 20% more and had ZERO people RSVP no! My venue is not huge and I don't want more than 170 people there because it will feel more crowded. We could have had more people but I didn't think of how much room a 9 piece band takes up!

If you *don't* hit the minimum... it's ok! At that point, it's a sunk cost. And while you'd like to fill all the seats you paid for, the math works out so that some of them are 'free' seats anyway. We calculated for one of the RHs we were looking at (haven't actually booked yet): because of the price difference between guaranteeing 150 vs 175 people, we break even at 167 people. If we guarantee 150 and have more than 167 come, we should have guaranteed 175. And if we guarantee 175 and only 168 come, that last person is still 'free'. The exact break-even point will vary based on the prices at different places.

My per head cost doesn't change if I meet my min. I think we will hit it- I do have 9 venors to feed so it should be okay (I hope!)

No... I meant that the per head cost was variable when you signed your contract originally and guaranteed a certain number of people. Anyway, I hope it all works out!
