How many vendors?

How many vendors?

How many vendors did everyone see for each vendor they had to book? I don't know if I'm driving myself crazy making so many appointments and only confusing myself more? Am i even making sense?

You have to weed through them. If you have a budget, first meet with vendors that are within your budget. Go through the reviews and posts on here, and you can knock some off thelist as well.

There are some vendors that I booked w/out having met them!!!

Re: How many vendors?

We booked our dj right after meeting him. I didn't look any further and cancelled all of my other appointments.

Re: How many vendors?

It depends on the vendor. We saw about 10 different photo/video before we decided. Our DJ we booked on the spot. We saw about 10 different halls, etc.

I think it all depends on how important the vendor/service is to you. Some people may love flowers but others could care less. Same with video, some may want one, some can do without. The only real advice I can give is, IF you're not completely comfortable with your vendor DO NOT book them. You should feel comfortable in asking any questions you may have and they should in turn answer all your questions and not dismiss them.

Good luck!!!

Re: How many vendors?

This may seem nuts, but most of my vendors are the first/only I looked at. I just didn't have the time/energy to travel all over the island. I live in the city and don't have a car so it was a fiasco everytime.

I just did a lot of research/calling around before I made appointments with each vendor to make sure they were great to work with and within my budget.

Re: How many vendors?

I started with the list my Hall gave me and went from there

or by a reccomendation from a friend

I don't have the time or enegery to look at a zillion places

I narrowed down halls based on location and things that were important to me- 1 event etc

I only went to 2 halls-

Re: How many vendors?

it depends on the vendor...

It took us 3 months to pick a reception sight after seeing practically all on LI

Photographer, didn't shop around

Florist, didn't shop around

Band, saw 2 bands & picked the second

Makeup, didn't shop around

Re: How many vendors?

Different for all vendors. For each vendor, I got pricing from at least 5 vendors, and visited :

Halls: Visited 8 (took 2 months to decide)

Photographer: Visited 2 (cancelled third meeting cause loved #1)

Florist: Visited just one (got pricing from ALOT)

Band: Went to 6 showcases

Good luck (fellow Land's End bride )

Re: How many vendors?

It depends:
Hall: we saw 5, I think
DJ: 3
photographer: 5
videographer: 6 if you count the photographers that also had video, 1 if we are counting only video
florist: 1 (I was running out of patience for wedding stuff by then)
limo: 1 (we booked over the phone, I really didn't want to do anything else by then)

I think thats it...

Halls: 5
DJ: 3
Florist: 2
Photographer/videographer: 2
Dress: tried on 20 but bought the first one I tried on

So I looked at more than one of each, but not too many. We live in MD and needed to be efficient. But I'm very happy with all of my choices!

Re: How many vendors?

hall - 1
photo/video- 3 - booked last one we met with
limos - 1
dj - 1
flowers - 1
dress - 1 place

its hard b/c there is a lot involved. but don't make yourself nuts, you don't have to use liw vendors, and if you booked your hall, you don't have to use the house vendors.

make a list of what you need and work from that.

good luck

Re: How many vendors?

Halls - 3 or 4?
Florist- 2 booked 1st on the spot-got great deal and I knew it! had to go to second afterwards so FH could see how much higher their quote was!
DJ- 2- booked second on the spot-knew we would probably go with them anyway.
Photo-4 and knew of a 5th from my MOH wedding who I didn't visit- booked last one and glad I did!
Video- saw videos at photographers- only one 'video guy' booking him in a day or so!
Makeup-1- booked on the spot - priced a few via phone tho
Limo- 1- waited to book until the price came down.

It depended on my personal schedule (I'm working and in school tue-Fri and many vendors are closed on Mon!) so I didn't have a lot of time. The Photographers were the vendor I was pickiest on and FH and I debated on the most. I saw a few if I wasn't sure of pricing or wanted to compare. I used LIWedding reviews a lot too!!

Do what feels right and check out vendors on the BBB!!!! You'd be surprised- a highly recommended photographer had issues with them!!

Re: How many vendors?

It depends on the individual bride, how much time she has, how much patience she has, and what is important to her. I can say I am not the norm, but I'm also very picky and wanted to make sure that I was waaaaay comfortable with not only the price and the quality of the vendor's product, but also the vendor personally. That said, here goes:

Catering Halls 25
Photographers 7
DJ's 3 (although 2 were at showcases)
Florists 10 thus far, next appointment is on 12/11 (by far my hardest decision)
Limos 4 (personality definitely decided this one!! Although the price wasn't bad either )
DOC 3 (will be booking 2nd one I met with this week)
Officiant's 1 (but I'm a lawyer & he is a judge I know)

I haven't started with video yet. I'll do that after I book a florist. The jeweler where we got our rings is someone I've known for almost 20 years. Ordered 1/2 dozen sample invites before making final decision. I will be ordering those online. My dress was the first one I tried on, although I ordered it from a different salon than where I tried it on, and I also tried on a dozen or so add'l dresses to make sure it really was the one.

I did the same thing! I live in Hoboken and it's a pain to get out to Long Island as well. That's the only reason why I have a lot of it done already. Most of my research came from friends who've already been through it all.
