How much are photographers paid before you see proofs?

If a photographer is paid 5K for everything, do youpay him or her all of that before you even see the proofs? Or do you pay a set amount and then more as you order your albums, etc after you see the proofs? I'm so confused!

Usually it's divided into thirds. A deposit when you book, another bunch the day of, I think and the last lump when you get the proofs. I don't have my contract in front of me, so I don't exactly remember. It may be the 2nd payment when you get proofs and the last bit when you get the ablums. Sorry to confuse you. I thought I knew what I was talking about.

I actually looked at my contract yesterday. All of it is due BEFORE the wedding except $400. When I pick up the proofs I pay the rest.

Ours was $400 up front, 1/3 of the remainder a week before and the rest when we got our proofs.

Do not pay the whole thing before proofs! I don't think any reputable photographer would do that
Mine was a small deposit, then balance split day of wedding and upon proof delivery.

I'm pretty sure mine is 75% the day of the wedding and the last 25% when I pick up the proofs.

For us, we payed about 80% of the balance before the wedding. Then we had to pay the remaining final payment when we picked up our proofs.

I paid 100% before I got the proofs, and plenty of reputable photographers require the same.

I paid a small deposit, a big chunck the day of, and I still owe him money for all the blowups and such that he is doing for us. I believe we pay all that when we approve our blow-ups for the albums.
