how much are you all going to tip or will tip your

matre d, captains, bridal attendant?
is $150 enough for each? toomuch? too little?

I think the 'norm' for a maitre d is $1-3 per person. As for the bridal attendants, I think I'm going to tip each of them $50. I get 2 at Floral Terrace (don't know what I would need 2 for though) Not sure what the norm is though. I don't have a captain or do I know what he/she does, so I can't help you with that.

a captain is like the head waiter (one for the bride's side and one for the groom's side)..i have all 4 listed above--and my hall suggested 3-4 per person---that would be tipping them 200 each--i don't even make 200 a day!

I think $3-4 is a lot esp. since you have soo many people My hall suggested $1-3. We'll probably give $2.

Edited to say:
Why would they even suggest $3-4 for a bridal attendant??? They don't deal with the guests right? I would NOT tip a bridal attendant $3-4 a person. That's insane.
Also, I think the Maitre D is the one who deals with everything, so I would probably tip him/her more than the captains. (so maybe you can tip the maitre d $150 and the captains $100-125)

i am trying to figure out how much to tip my limo drivers as wel as my dj---or i am debating on asking my dj if they would rather a better tip or dinner? i feel awkward asking my dj though!

I think our DJ told us $50 is the norm. For the limo drivers, I'd tip them from $25-50.
god, I'm getting sick to my stomach now. The tipping situation is INSANE

i felt bad too--but my wedding starts late so i was unsure!......i guess i will probably tip the photographer and videographer more since they will be w/me all day---here goes another grand!!

I remember the tip debate before my wedding...and I have to say that I was truly glad to give everyone what I did...they did such a great job...I almost wish I could give them more
for 150 guests:

maitre d - $400
bridal asst - $200
photo - $100 (2 photogs, 1 asst...one was owner and the asst did crap...but the other photog was awesome...so i hope he gave the whole thing to her)
video - $20 for the 2nd camera at the ceremony and I think I gave $40 to the owner...i know I know...but I did
limo - on top of his 20% an extra $10 (but DH's family gave their guy $100...but he was really good to them and they are big tippers)
florist deliverer - $20
dj - $120 for dj, mc, and asst (although mc was owner)

everyone there for the long run was fed!

Alot of the catering halls have a set amount of how much to tip the maitre'd. They hit you with it not long before the final payment. It is quite high. I would suggest calling them and asking if they have a set amount. I did a bar mitvah for my son there and about a week before they broke it to us how much they expect!

Yeap, the tipping thing is such a headache! One of the nice things that happened when dealing with the Westbury Manor, is that both times, when we book the hall and when we went for the final payment they explained to us that the 18% of gratuity would take care of everybody, but they only suggested for us to tip the Maitre D' and the bridal attendant. We had a 50 people party, so it was not a very big event, so I gave the Maitre D' a bit more than $2 per person, a total of $120. To our bridal attendant $80 (she did a great job taking care of us), the limo $20 (it was booked only one ride and no extra time), the flower delivery $10.

Now about the photography, in the contract it said that they suggested a 5% on the package price of gratuity; I gave to the color $150, to her assistante I gave $50 because it seemed to me that it was fair a third of what the photographer was getting (she was very useful, I wished I had given her more). And to the photojournalist I gave $40 since he had to stay less time than the other two. DJ $40 (we had only one men DJ, and his job was only to put the music, most of it we gave it to him beforehand, and announce a couple of things). The color photographer, the assistant, and the DJ were fed.

i just read through my papers and saw (for the first time) that my place 'suggests' $3/guest for the maitre'd -- that's $600 for me! doesn't that seem INSANE?!

i have NO CLUE about photo and video...
i just met with the photo guy for the eng shoot and we REALLY like him and liked that work so i know we'll want to give him a good tip

i think all photo/video/dj people should get fed, without question
