How much are you tipping photographers???

I have 2 photographers for 5 hours total. Assuming that their work is good, how much is reasonable to tip them?

Well it depends. If it's their own business you really don't need to tip them because your fee is going directly to them. I don't think we tipped the photographer. If you are giving them a meal -- you shouldn't feel the need to tip them. If they go above and beyond the call of duty then ofcourse it's up to you if you would like to tip.
I know Mat'r'd can get $1 to $2 per guest as a tip.

They don't own the business, that's why I'd like to plan to tip them. But, they are not getting a meal since we are only having them for the first hour of the ceremony. Would $50 each for 5 hours be enough?

Most of what I've looked at on tipping says that tipping your photographer is not necessary unless they have gone above and beyond the call of duty. There is no set percentage if you want to. I think if you wanted to tip $50 each or any amount that would be very nice and they should appreciate it.

Nina - I think we have the same photography studio. I haven't decieded exactly how much to tip but Im setting aside several hundred dollars. Since your are only using them for 5 hours, I don't think you have to give quite so much.

we tipped him $50. Without seeing the finished product, I wasn't willing to go higher than that. If he had been amazing to work with, I may have gone higher. But he was just ok.

We also paid $50 for his meal.

Re: How much are you tipping photographers???

I am going to be a little biased here cause my dad is a photographer... but most photographers are there from when you are getting ready in the morning, to when you cut your cake at night... no other vender is there as long as your photog. my dad has done weddings when the people didnt even get him a plate so he had to sit in the corner while dinner was served all the long starving. and its not like he can go to the kitchen and pay for his meal, and he CAN NOT leave during the wedding to grab a meal, he can not eat during cocktail hour cause this is when photos are usually taken..also he really has one of the hardest jobs, catching all the right moments for you .. i have been with him as an assitant many times and you wouldnt believe how drunk some of the bridal party gets by the middle of cocktail hour, so trying to get these people to take pictures is not an easy task..trying to get people together for table picutures is a nightmare.. someone is always missing... i think a tip of 50.00 - 100.00 is a good tip.. just think about the matred.. he has a million waiters and waitresses helping him and is only there for 5 hours.. and he gets usually about 250-300
but ill stop rambling....
