Our reception hall said an average of $1000, does that seem high or about average?

Re: How much are you tipping the Matrie'D??
It depends upon your guest count. They say anywhere from $2-$5 per person. I know we did not do $1000, that does seem high unless you have a lot of people. I can't remember what we did, I think somewhere around $500-600. I remember it came out to around $4 pp for 150 people.

The prices that JT writes on that final bill are insane - ignore them!
We tipped a little over $4 per guest. So for us it was $400.
Anywhere from $3-5 per person should be more than fine.
I have no clue what to tip, but we will figure it all out soon. I kow we also have 2 Bridal attendants to tip as well!!!
I am tipping:
Videoman Photographer Lightguy DJ MC 2 Bridal Attendants Matrie D
That is it. Limo is included and he is not getting tipped unless we fall in love with him.

In my case, I wasnt too happy w/ my maitre 'd, so I ended up under-tipping her, and even that I thought was too much.
She wasnt nearly as great as my bridal attendant, and to me.........the maitre 'd should be everything........especially the tip that they so call 'require'.
They say $2-3 per guest is what you are supposed to tip your maitre 'd, but if you dont think shes worth it by any means........then dont.

We tipped $1000. It comes out to $5.68pp At first we were only going to do $700, but he did such an amazing job, we added a few moere hundred. I also tipped the Bridal Attendant $100 for herself, so she would get extra.

Nothing would really happen, however it really is quite inappropriate not to tip. People work very hard at weddings.

These are salaried people. I think the catering business is pretty sleazy if they can't pay these people a live-able wage. Think about it. If they got $200-$300/party considering some halls have 2-4 weddings a day-that would be a regular full time salary. I'm not saying they don't work hard, but you are paying their salary twice with the amt you pay for the place and then the tip. Also, it's cash!

I agree with you. I was freaking out about this because we were expecting approx 350 people at the wedding and that's ALOT of $$ if you ask me to tip someone. It actually looks like our number is going to be much lower, but we decided ours is getting a flat fee tip, and we're not basing it on how much the average is per person. Personally, I have a thing about tipping vendors, etc.....especially if they work for themselves. I know the Maitre'D doesn't work for themselves, but if you ask me they can make a lot of $$ in CASH on a weekend.
