How much cash for the weeK????

Just curious how much $$ you take out for spending each week. I rely way too much on my debit card and never use cash but think I might be spending a lot of money and not realizing it by living this way. I want to spend on a 'cash only' basis but am not sure what would be a good budget.

I never really knew either until I started saving all of my receipts (ATM transactions, gas, food, everything) for one month. It worked out to be MUCH more than I would have thought... so now my DH and I are on a careful budget plan that will relly help us achieve our goals in the near future!

My husband and I take out an 'allowance' each paycheck (every 2 weeks) and that will last us until the next paycheck. That money is for our breakfasts/lunches at work, dinner with our friends (if he ore I go out alone with friends), andy hobbies that we have. Everything else...gas, metro cards, food, etc...is figured into our budget!! It seems to be a good system for us!!

I control the purse strings.
I get paid twice a month (middle & end) and from each check I set aside 160 - 200 depending on the bills that cycle (we are paying for our wedding remember).

That money is for Gas, Lunch Groceries, Dinner Groceries and my Lunch Money. Also an other incidentals. Oil Changes, dinner out, movie rentals... stuff like that.

Groceries are around $30 per week. So that's $60, Gas is around $20 a week, so that's $40. I have $10 a week for food at the office, so that's $20.

If we're lucky we have $40 per week to play with. between the two of us.

We really stick to our budget. Lately it's been $20 a week extra funds which normally is used on food.

I usually just take what I need. This way it controls my spending and if I dont have the cash on me oh well cant have it. I try not to use my debit card if i can help it

I take about 60 dollars for the week. 20 dollars automatically for the train. I also have bowling on Thursday nights so thats 20 - 25 dollars.

the rest is for misc stuff.

it really keeps me in check with my spending.

As for bills we pay when they come in via check.

I was spending a $100 a week on lunch etc. but now I have cut back (just bought a house).
Do you guys bring lunch to work? Edited to say: Bagging your lunch helps a lot in the city.

That's sort of what I was wondering. I buy lunch maybe three times a week and spend way more then $60/week, probably closer to $150. This does include picking up odds and ends at cvs or the grocery store. And we sometimes order in which would come out of our wallets vs a planned event.

I got pretty good about not using my debit card for anything, mostly because of the fees.

Hmmm, maybe I'll start at like $60 a week and see how it goes. I try to bring my lunch but I must admit I get lazy. Or I bring in a frozen dinner and then don't want it once lunchtime rolls around.
