It is possible to spend less than $400 if you choose a simple invitation. Mine were about that much.

We paid a little bit over $450 for 150 invitations. Found them at www.now-and-forever.com. They were also bought through them personalized napkins for the cocktail hour and personalized cocktail stirrers.

OMG... at some of these prices I'd expect the invitation company to provide me with a traveling singer who would knock on each one of my guests front doors and sing my invitation to the people invited.
Does someone jump out of the envelope? Does a little monkey come do a trick and then hand them the invite?

Re: how much did everyone spend on their inviations?
We got 125 invites plus all the extras (invite, inner and outer env, response cards & env, reception card, sticker seals, etc.) for $500, but we didn't shop around. I know they can be found cheaper. They are part of the NuArt collection. We spent computer calligraphy on the inner and outer env. for $80 (came out amazing)and spent $110 on postage.Good luck!

You can definitely spend less then $400, just shop around.
But I wouldn't say if you choose a simple invitation it will be less then $400. Our invitations are very simple and we are paying about $1200 for 150. It all depends on the company, weight of the paper, etc. William Arthur and Crane's are more expensive as a result. I happen to go to a stationary store in Manhattan and looked at William Arthur first, after that I didn't want anything lighter weight.
But you can find beautiful invites on line for a fraction of this it depends what you want.

Re: how much did everyone spend on their inviations?
I spent about $225 for 100 invitations, including invitations, reception and response cards, with pre-addressed return envelopes and my return address printed on the outer invitation envelope. I got them from www.Rexcraft.com and selected one of the simpler patterns. They came within a week or two- I attached a pictureIf you have a computer and the time, Michaels, Party City and I think even Target have make it yourself kits for invitations that run about $30 for 50 invitations. They have an invitation, response card and envelopes for each (so no inner envelope for the invitation). I was thinking of going that way, but didn't think I would have the time or patience to do it myself. Also, FH did not love the design of them, so he vetoed it. They are pretty simple, but nice and would be a huge savings.

Re: how much did everyone spend on their inviations?
We spent about $400 for our invitations including response cards, lined envelopes etc..We bought them at the Wedding Center in Commack. The discount everything I think 20% or 30%. We also added vellum paper that opens from the inside out and closed the invitation with a sheer irredisant bow. Looked like you were opening a present.

Re: how much did everyone spend on their inviations?
We are spending about $1500 for 200 invitations - but that is only because they are canadian invites and i get the advantage of the great exchange rate - otherwise they would have been over $2100 - plus the place gives a 15% discount for purchases over $2Kit comes out to about $7.25 per invite
THis includes - the inner and outer envelope combo, response card set and reception card
