How much did you pay for new siding?

Just wondering what the average price is for vinyl siding...DH was looking online and found a cost estimate wizard, but I'm not sure how accurate it is for Long Island.

If you feel more comfortable, pls FM me...thanks!

Claud, we looked into it for our hi ranch a few years ago (which mean basically one level getting siding, the bottom half is brick), and it was very expensive (for our budget). I think we were quoted like $15,000, whereas painting it (it's cedar shingles now) was much less. We still haven't done anything!

We wanted the seamless type and they would have capped all our windows in the process. We are going to look into it again this spring and get quotes from other places.

Claud...call Sears for an estimate. They are supposed to have good prices.

Sears is very expensive too.
I hear GREAT things about King Quality.

Thanks Trish (for the ballpark $$ amount)...that's pretty much what DH was finding online - although I do that is ALOT for just one level of a hi-ranch! $15K is what he was estimating for our whole house (2 story colonial).

I mentioned Sears to DH this morning. I will keep King Quality in mind. We will probably just get some estimates in a couple of weeks or months...thanks again!

ETA: Trish - what was the estimate like on getting the cedar shingles painted? We are curious about having that done as an alternative. Thanks!

Re: How much did you pay for new siding?

I've been interested in this myself .. our house had new siding installed within 2 years prior to us purchasing it .. and we've been in here now for just over 4 years .. however, I don't think the job was done properly .. and I don't like the color of the front of the house .. the sides and back are white .. which is fine .. but I'm mostly concerned with what appears to me to be poor workmanship.

Anyway .. I thought I've seen ads that for a standard cape .. it runs about $4,000.

Also, I know for sure many companies were running discounts for booking through February .. something like 35% off .. I just never bothered calling anyone because it's just not in our budget at all .. if it's something you can hold off on til next year, maybe you'd want to wait for this kind of discount .. I don't think they're still valid, though.

We get tons of flyers each week .. check them out to see if there are current discounts. It's always the thin color flyers that come with the mail .. and I definitely have seen ads for King Quality in them .. because I've always thought they'd be a company I'd call.

Claud - the cedar shingels can't actually be painted - the paint peels right from it. We have a brown opaque stain on it now and would be looking ot go a different color, like colonial blue or a deep grey.

To opaque stain the house, which would first require some patch ups because our shingles are really bad on the side of the house that gets all the sun, would have cost us about $5-6K. I think that's the option we may take. But probably not until after baby arrives and we can save up some money!

Good Luck, let us know what you decide.

Right Trish....we have already researched the product - the Cabot opaque wood stains - we already used it on our deck in the back (came out beautiful), and we were considering whether to use it on the house.

We are getting our house re-sided this month. We got a few quotes - One from Total Home Constuction was for like 13,000 for our house. We have a 2 story colonial. We opted to go with a freinds company who is saving us a ton!!! Good luck !
