We didn't tip. I read somewhere tat it can actually be offensive to give tips to priests/deacons.

We gave the priest $100 but he is a friend of the family for years. We gave each altar server $15.

we gave the same 100 to our priest who we are very close with, and 15 to the altar boys..
we put in the card that we appreciated his marrying us and that kinda thing, and we added that we hope he accepts our token of thanks whether its towards his youth ministry or dinner on us, whatever he chooses..so he doesnt get offended in any way,,

Why would a priest be offended to receive a token of appreciation from the bride and groom? After all he's doing the most important job of the day more so than any of the vendors and we give them huge tips.
I'd definitely give him something, and the altar servers as well.

This is the way I understand it....

Giving money implies a tip for paid services, when from the priest is performing a religious sacrament....

But, giving a gift of appreciation is appropriate. I know priests usually like to keep tabs of their married couples, and a momento would be a nice keepsake for him.
It can be in addition to an extra donation for the church.....

hope this helps,
