The assistant to my MD at Morgan Stanley made about $40,000 I think. She was an idiot.

ETA: She kept failing her Series 7--I think if she passed she would have gotten a raise.

Did you pass your series 7 and 63 yet? Start with those tests--without them you definitely wouldn't be starting at 60.

Gabrielle - if you have a quant background you can make much, much, much more than 60K!

Assts start around 40 in big firms but can make as much as 100K a year if they have the right skills and experience and boss.

They make much more than $40,000. I think the start would be in the mid 50s to well over $100K if your in the right department.

I have no Wall Street qualifications except that I work with a bunch of Wall Street quants at a university. One offered me a job at a hedge fund he is starting, but I'm worried it will fail and then there goes my job.

Plus I said 'what would I do at your hedge fund?' My expertise is with students and special events. He had some kind of assistant-type position in mind.

Exec Assts in downtown NYC should make between $50-100k. Amazing!

I'm not sure about all of them--I know for a fact that the one for the MD in Institutional Equities at Morgan Stanley was making 40,000. But, she did not have her licenses and acted more as a secretarial-assistant. We had many many sales assistants who made a great deal more, but the personal assistant to the MD did not make that much $$. I made more than her straight from college.
