Anyone who has had movers can you give me an idea of how much stuff you had to move and how much the movers charged ya?
I live in a one bed room apartment and I am not sure if we should just Uhaul my stuff ourselves or get movers.

These guys are TOP notch. I've used them twice (once in 2001 and once in 2003). I will use them again if I ever buy a house.
Four men plus a truck and they last charged me $103 an hour (they move quick). Prices may have went up since 2003.

after our friends last experience with uhaul we vowed never to move ourselves again! we moved in jersey and actually used people from long island on a recommendation from DH's former co-worker. we used them once for a mini transport of furniture from brooklyn to jersey, then used them again for our most recent move because we thought they did a decent job.
i think they are called Pac-King Moving and they are based in Levittown. i believe they charge similar rates to what djpill posted above, not sure though...

I'm really surprised at how high some of the quotes are.
I have a quote from the moving company that DjPill posted and it's the best I've gotten so far. I've also checked them out on the BBB site and they have a good record.

We used Moving Right Along out of Queens (either Middle Village or Glendale). They were very good... we paid about $1100 for them to move about 80 boxes, living room, and bedroom furniture. They were quick and nothing got ruined. It was worth every penny.

When you look at how much overhead the moving company has... $103 an hour (or something around that) is VERY cheap.
Think about it... you have FOUR guys moving you. With the service I quoted... my last move five guys showed up (one was the foreman - son of the owner). How much do you think they are getting paid an hour for this company to be profitable? $10/hr? Then factor in the cost of the truck... PLUS the gas. (they do charge 1/2 to an hour of travel time though).
I find $103 an hour to be VERY reasonable knowing you don't have to do a single bit of labor.

for our local move we just paid $120/per hour for three men and the truck with a mandatory hour for travel. i thought that was reasonable. i also checked the company on BBB before i hired them and they had a good record since 1984, so i feel good about them.

A one bedroom apt you may be ok just using Uhaul. However if it was a house or so I would say go with the movers.

We used Men on the Move (in FLoral Park) for our move from a 1-bedrm apt in Queens to Suffolk. They charged 96 an hour and were done in less than 4 hours (w/ an hour travel time). They were professional, fast and I highly recommend them. FH said he would never move on his own again.
