How much do professional house painters cost?

We have 2 bedrooms/ kitchen/LRDR (one big room) and a small hallway....

about how much have people paid? DH wants to pay for it, but I don't know since we already have so many expenses. But time is kind of important because we aren't supposed to close until MOnday (if ever) and then we want to be out of our apt. by the end of the month.

Any estimates of price would be great....

i think it varies. a handyman is probably less expensive then a pro painter. i am interested in hiring someone as well. although we could do it ourselves, i want it done right.

My neighbor paid $5000 for a painter to do a 1400 sq foot house. This included some patching and skim coating.

I paid about 3K for about 1K square feet. But the painter did a lot of extras too. He fixed a wall in the closet...put up some fixtures...replaced some hardware around the apt.... etc...

We thought it was a lot but in the end it ended up being totally worth it!!!

ETA: check the pennysaver. there are a TON of handyman and painter ads. they also offer free estimates.

i got quoted close to 6grand for my house close to 1400 sq ft. Now my husbands friends are doing it for beer.

It may turn out being more expensive in the end

My dad had a housepainting business & did it for about 15 years (after he retired NYPD). He was a craftsman and was definitely quality. Unless a painter comes in and sees the rooms & if furniture is there, etc., you won't get a 'real' estimate. Almost all painters will give you a free estimate. It depends on the condition of the rooms as well and the colors (if you are painting over a dark maroon say & are now going w/ a china white you are going to need at least 2-3 coats).

I'd say the 5000-6000 range is more accurate.

Definitely insist upon Benjamin Moore paint and a primer coat.

Also, beware of the guys that come in, slop on cheap paint, drip all over the floors and moldings and are in/out in 2 days. You'll regret this...

If you did want to save money, buy the paint & have some friends do it with you perhaps (definitely a better choice than hiring not-so-great painters).

FM me w/ any q's.

Good luck.
