A christening gift? What is normal? This is our best friends baby.

Re: How much do you give for
Personally, I would give a hundred dollars. But I have no frame of reference for this, I just think 100 is a safe number.

Re: How much do you give for
WOW - I think $100 is alot of money for a christening! We got that amount from family only. Most friends gave $50 in cash or a $50 savings bond, which costs $25 to purchase. We felt that everyone was generous to Paul, regardless of the amount.

I think $100 is a nice number. We usually give that number in a savings bond.

I would give the $100 and something small but sentimental to open.

Re: How much do you give for
I generally will give a $100 savings bond which costs $50 - if it''s family I will give $100 dollars cash or a $200 savings bond that costs $100.

Re: How much do you give for
Wish I had thought of savings bonds....
This past August, we had so many Christenings and First Birthdays, we ended up spending almost 500.00 on gifts for our friends'' children!!!
I think that''s really excessive. While 100.00 is a nice gift, sometimes you just can''t do it. Especially if it''s not the only gift you''re giving in a given month.
Next time I''m going to do savings bonds. Not that I''m cheap, I''m actually quite the opposite. But 500.00 in one month is ridiculous!!

Re: How much do you give for
We give a $200 savings bond. We use to give a check for $100 but if it''s for a baby, a savings bond makes great sense.
However, the only baby chrisitenings we have attended that I can remember are close friends or family. If it was someone not as close I think I''d give either a $100 bond ($50) or a $75 bond ($37.50)
If the $100 (or whatever #) is not affordable in your budget, give less. I would hope that no friend or family member would expect you to spend more than you can afford.
ETA: For Luke's Christening we got varied amounts as well as some gifts. These are people who came to my bridal shower & wedding in early 2001 and then my baby shower in August 2002....then most people bought him something after he was born in October 2002....then in Feb 2003, his Christening. I think everyone was rather generous to us no matter what they gave.
