How much extra money should be left after paying a monthly mortgage off for all other expenses? I am unsure about this.
If you feel comfortable, I would love to hear what all your bills like heat, gas, electric, et al. come out to every month? I don't really know what to expect.

Re: How Much Do You Need to Put Aside for Bills?
I just wrote out all our bills on Saturday. We are in the house since May 22 and just had a small LIPA bill after 3 weeks, so that was not a good indicator. This is what I just paid on utilities.
LIPA - $305 (2 months. We have central air and it's been on continuously for a month). Keyspan - $50 (1 month. Heating water, stove and natural gas barbecue). Sewers - $28. Water - $80 (2 months. Included $30 new account fee).
In addition our phone bill was $80. I call overseas a lot. Cablevision was $100.

LIPA: we're on a budget so it's $103 We have oil and we just filled up and I think it was about $350ish (not sure how long that will last since we've only been in the house a few months). Oil's for hot water and heat. Cable: $97 (phone, online, and TV) Water: every 3 months-I think it was a bout $20 (we're in Suffolk where water's cheap) No gas. I think I included all the major bills (except the mortgage of course!)

Oil is more expensive than gas, right?

While oil may be higher priced per unit I've read that oil burns more efficiently meaning you will burn less oil than gas when heating your home..I don't know how the $$ works out though.

Msot of my friends with oil said they wish they had gas. So it sounds like gas is preferred by most.
Anyways as for bills try to go on the budget.
Our keyspan is 126
And our Lipa is 110..so far for one month (3weeks) we used 21.08..if only it would stay that way.

Irishbride:
What will happen in your scenario when the Winter hits? You don't have oil right?
Does that mean your LIPA (electric) will go down... and your Keyspan (gas heating) will go up?

Yes, that's the obvious conclusion. We had oil heat but just converted for many reasons.

My sister-in-law told me Cablevision has a plan where you can get cable, internet and phone for $142 a month, and it never changes for her. Anyone do this?

Yep, really saving a ton of dough on phone bills. I'm happy with it (for now). I'm sure the rate will go up once the year is up.

It does change after a year. That is what Cablevision told me. That price is jsut a promotion. I don't know though. We haveb't had it that long yet.

We have the triple play too. For the promotion we got, we got all 3 for $30 each a month. After 1 year, the cable portion goes up to like $69, but the phone and internet stay at $30 each.
