how much do you tip the matra D (sp?) I am having my reception at Westbury Manor and I was just there today to drop off all my stuff for my friday wedding and they told me that you are suppose to tip the matra D $3 - $5 per person. I am having 262 people at my wedding. If I tipped him $3 pp I would be tipping him $786 and if I were to tip him $5 pp it would be $1310. Does this sound right? How much did/ are you tipping your Matra D? Thanks!

That is too much....I heard from Eastwind it is supposed to be $2-$3 per person.

I have to be honest- those numbers NEVER seem right. Leonard's also said approx $3-$4 per person.
I tipped the Maitre D $2 per person and he was VERY VERY VERY thankful.
I gave the bridal attending a $50 and she was also very appreciative (well, she spilled water on my guest book and pretty much ruined it, so I don't think she was expecting anything)

I tipped the Maitre D $2/person only because he was also my BM and I HAD to give him $300 due to our contract.

It was actually written into my contract that the 'fee' (tip) is $3 per person.
Isn't that a bit rude to make you sign a contract binding you to pay a certain tip before the service is even provided???
Either way....I still signed..and I'm paying $3 pp.

You tip what you can afford. And from past experiences-that 'tip' to the maitre'd...well he/she does not get it all, in fact they get less than half of it..that money goes to the 'house'...its more cash they make off of you. The bridal attendent gets to keep their money, usually not more than $50..that's sufficient.

My cousin used to be a bridal attendant at Thatched Cottage. According to her, a good tip for your attendant is $100 or more.

We were told $5-$7 per guest for the maitre d, because she splits that $ with everyone working at the reception site. Bridal attendant $100.

$100 is a great tip for a bridal attendent...but as far as the maitre'd 'splitting' the money.... I have to say that's probably not true. During college I worked at a few catering halls and I always thought that they have to split it...when in reality it goes to the house.. I never heard of them splitting it. So dont feel guilty for not tipping 'enough'

it's usually decide by the hall. if they said 3-5 I would do $4. It sounds right, thats how much they normally get tipped.

I did about $3 per person for the maitre'd. and I gave the bridal attendant $100. Our BM had told us that the money given to the maitre'd was not all for him. He got a chunk and then split some with the waiters and bartenders and coat check person.

If you'll notice at the end of the night there's usually a BM or someone cheching out what's going on. Or if not- sometimes, managemnemt will actually ask YOU what you gave the maitre'd (very uncomfortable), Its just custom that the maitre'd gives in the money. But splitting it- never heard of that one. That would be nice though- the 3 halls I've worked at- saw the same thing everytime- tip to the house. Maitre'd gets some, a very small amount...
