How much do you tip for the holiday?

How much do you tip your mailman, garbage man? I used to give $40 each. Is that too little?

4 doorman and 4 porters? Do you live in a gated community?
We do our own maintenance. Well... DH does.

We don't tip at all. Are we supposed to? Honestly I never heard of it and now I'm nervous!!!! I used to live in a co-op and just moved in with DH after the wedding. To my knowledge, no one tipped them in my co-op (??).
I just asked my DH and he said some do tip, some don't. I guess that means he doesn't or didn't used to before this post haha....

well, since I'm still living at home with my parents until after the wedding next month, I don't know anything about tipping. What I don't get is how you all actually KNOW your garbage & mail men. I never even met them because they only come around when I'm at work. I can understand tipping a doorman who you probably say hello to whenever you arrive or leave, but if you live in a regular house, then I don't get it. I just can't see myself ever tipping a person that I never even see. I'll have to check out how the situation is when I'm married & living with FH.

Yes people do tip.. I think it depends though.. I am onsite with 64 apartments I manage and sometime I wish I was the maint guy during the holiday season!!! My tenants will give him $50-$100 pp ... between 12/1 & 12/25 he gets a nice little amount of money! But I think its what you can afford with $40 being the most reasonable..

I think it depends on where you live.. the type of building... where I work everyone knows the maint guys because he does work for them at any given time.. the Fed ex guy they also know and Tip because he will call them personally and wait for them if packages require signatures.. I think it depends on the situation.. I live in a house near by.. and my FH takes care of everything.. so he will get the tip...

Yeah we have the same dilemma - we have two doormen (one for 5 days of the week, the other for 2 days) - they each work 8 hours a day. And the super of the building (we live in a coop).

Last year we had just moved in about 3 months before Christmas so we gave a smaller tip - this year, I have no idea!!!!

It really all depends. I've lived in my apt for what seems like forever. Some years I use the maintenance guys a lot some years not at all. If I've used them frequently, I tip. If not, I don't. The last couple of years, I just bought a tray of cookies down to the office.

Doormen are a different issue. I think $40-$50 per person is fine.

we're going through a similar issue..

my parents tip 40 for the mail man and 50 for sanitation..

we have 5 guys that rotate at front desk.. 50 each would be a till too much right??

I live in a co-op and I have to say most do tip. Also tip the super, which i dont think was on the list so had to point that out. Actually we give the super the most bc he is very helpful to us and has done alot.

The sanitation people come at 2am by me so don't give them. Sorry not going down at 2am lol. Its actually quite annoying that they have to come at 2am, i dont blame them bc its what time they are told to do it but is this normal? its always between 1:30am-2am, its so noisy too.
