I am not from NY and where I live people give out a little bag of mints or something like that, so now that I am having a NY wedding, everyone keeps asking what favors I am giving out. It drives me nuts and was just wondering if the favor is really that BIG A DEAL?
FH and I have been back and forth and have decided on personalized coffee bags, but I have danced my way around telling anyone what I am giving in fear of the constant judgement I get from FIL's.

It is SO not a big deal....I didn't do them and I heard NO complaints about it! We thought we could use the $$ elsewhere, like having the chocolate fountain!

my sister recently went to a wedding and they gave out personalized coffee bags with little silver coffee scoops...SO CUTE but i remember as a kid all my cousins gave out bags of the almonds or mints........ you dont have to go all out.......do what YOU want...everyone will have fun regardless..and half the people toss the favors anyway

People like receiving presents so some make a BIG deal out of it. I personally am donating to charity so they're not getting a PHYSICAL gift but I don't care.

Favors aren't THAT important, it's just supposed to be a token from your day. The coffee bags are just fine, I wouldn't worry about it.

The bags and the scoops were my original plan, but FH didn't remember me saying scoops so now it's just the bags.

I agree that it's not a huge deal; just a little extra recognition and thank-you to your guests. There will always be people who criticize everything, so don't worry about it. We spent a little $$ on ours, since I love Neuhaus chocolates and thought everyone else should too , but little bags of jordan almonds are just fine, and I'm sure the coffee will go over well.

It is a tradiotion a in my family to give something tangible preferably crystal orglass.
So, it was important to my family, but it is not important to a lot of other people.
I bought Mikasa bowls, but most of my friends will probably think it is dumb, b/c they are used to cookies or chocolates.

Not a big deal. We didn't give out favors.
Most jewish people don't even give favors and if they do it's usually a donation to a charity. Not sure if it's a jewish thing or just the 10+ jewish weddings I have been to.

Personally I don't see the big deal with Favors...From all the weddings I went to, I think I might have 1 or 2 favors...Most people throw them in the garbage after a couple of months if not that night. This is why FH & I are donating money to the National Parkinson's Foundation in memory & honor of my grandma...they need the $$ for research more then someone needs a candle..JMO

I didn't do favors -- personally I leave them behind if I can anyway. I don't know anyone who actually wants the favors they get so....do wahtever you want.

Favors aren't a big deal at all. I've never noticed when I didn't get a favor at a wedding. Do whatever you want - there's no right or wrong way.

Not that big a deal at all. Personalized coffee is a great favor. And you are right to NOT tell people what you are giving. I mean really, why are they asking??? Probably so they can pass judgement on it. Screw that.

To me, favors are not a big deal, for some people they are. I would LOVE to get a coffee bag because I am a coffee junkie. I also think you shouldn't worry about them getting left behind, because at so many weddings and other functions, I see people snatching up the ones that get left behind as well as their own. You can't please everyone, and I think you have a great favor.
