FH and I are trying to clean up our wedding budget... how much should we allocate for a videographer - cheap/mid priced but good. Is $1000 cheap?

Re: HOW MUCH DOES VIDEOGRAPHER COST
I think $2000 would be a little more 'average'

i agree...i dont kno it depends on were you go, what you willing to settle for... and sometimes if you get some sort of a 'package' you get a better deal etc...good luck!

I agree with the above posters. If you really need to stick to the $1K budget, then maybe you can negotiate with your photographer a little better...most of them offer both video and photo.

Between $1500 - $2000 is more average. It all depends on the hours of coverage you need and waht type of end product you guys like.

I think mine's like 1400 so that sounds like a great deal.

Check out Halovideo.com. Someone on here recommended them to me. I'm on a strict budget too and don't plan to spend more than 1k on video. His prices are $795 and $995. HTH

Okay... so dumb question....What really drives the price? Is it the hours? Anyone having the videographer just at ceremony and reception? Say 5-6 hours? Then what range are we talking?

There should be no restriction when it comes to time. The end result is what drives the price - are you getting VHS or DVD format, and how many? How many minutes is your edited tape and such.

Re: HOW MUCH DOES VIDEOGRAPHER COST
Also, the type of editing drives the price as well.
Some videographers will charge a different price in accordance to # of hours and # of locations to be taped.
There's a lot of comparisons that must be done before you select one.

I used Pete from Wedding Cinema and we paid $1100 for 7 hours of coverage, editing, music, 3 copies i believe, etc. He will definitely work within your budget and remember... depending on what you want or don't want can lower the price.

Re: HOW MUCH DOES VIDEOGRAPHER COST
I am not sure about price ranges for everyone else but Bliss is amazing! Jerry has a Basic package for $1700 or maybe less
FYI Bliss has 4 packages:
Basic - shoot the day (8 hours) with light editing (documentary style NOT what is on the Bliss website) 1.5 in length, 3 basic DVD's (no motion menus) and you can add 15 photos to the video. Names and date will be at opening of video.
Traditional - 8 hours in wide screen format 16:9 and fully edited (like samples on Bliss website). Final product 1 hour 10 minutes and 3 authored DVD's plus 25 photos can be added.
Director's Cut - 10 hours of coverage (prep included) with 2 videographers, fully edited like traditional package. DVD is 1 hour and 10 minutes long in a special editon DVD case and you get 3 copies plus 30 photos can be added.
Commissioned Artwork - Prep through 1 hour of reception filmed by two videographers. The rest of the reception is filmed by 1 videographer. Fully edited DVD will be 1 hr & 10 minutes in Special DVD packaging plus 3 copies and 5 Thank You versions of the wedding recap on DVD. 35 photos can be included.
