I'm not sure what's acceptable or even what's considered expensive for bridal party attire. One of my BMs lives in Maryland and earns a drastically different salary than my NY friends. What do you girls think constitutes 'Expensive' and is that before or after alterations? Please take the poll below. Thanks.

Re: How Much For BM Dresses
We went through davids Bridal. The dresses were $130...then they got $20 off because I bought my dress there... brought them down to $110. This is w/o any alterations though!

Mine were $90 through Davids Bridal (originally $110 but the girls got a discount since I bought my dress there too)

Re: How Much For BM Dresses
Check out the discount places like Pearl's Place, RK Bridal, and NetBride. I got my BM dresses at PP for $99, when they retailed for $150. They were Alfred Angelo dresses. NetBride was also pretty competitive (less than $10 more than PP). I intentionally chose reasonably priced dresses, but the discount prices made them a steal. Even with alterations, the total price of the dress would have been below retail.
In answer to your question, I would consider over $200 to be expensive. Add in the dress, travel, hair and makeup, and it adds up. If your friend is really stretched financially, a $200 dress could be as unattainable as one twice that.
Talk to your friend about what she can afford. If she can't swing what you choose, offer to help her out.

Re: How Much For BM Dresses
My dresses are Bill Levkoff, I am ordering through netbride....all 4 girls have different styles--1 is paying $128, 2 are paying $133, and 1 is paying $160 (all before alterations). I got quotes on all the styles they liked (in that fabric/color/designer) and let them choose, so they determined how much they would each spend. I think all of them chose the dress they liked best, not based on cost, so I guess the cost wasn't really an issue for them!

Re: How Much For BM Dresses
I paid about $100 for each dress from bluefly.
They aren't typical BM type but it matches my look for a floaty, flirty dress. You can check it out in my album. I wanted something 'springy' and these dresses do the trick.
Gluck!

Re: How Much For BM Dresses
It's tough now a days....my goal was to stay under $200 w/out alterations. I think it's great you are considering their feelings though. I did the same thing and I think people appreciate that.

Re: How Much For BM Dresses
The dress I had picked out was $140 but the sash was $75 which was an ouchie but the bm wanted it that way because I said either order a dress with a sash all ready on it or ribbon with some green otherwise we need a green sash on a black dress.
I think i am going to buy the sashes off the girls after the wedding and use it for myself with a plain black dress. But deff. a normal average is $140 for a dress.
