I have been looking for a while and fell in love with a Jim Hjelm dress. I really want to do organza or chiffon, because it matches my dress. But I am afraid that my BM's will say the dress i picked is too expensive. How much do you think is reasonable?

This is such a tough issue. I think that you should honestly ask your bridesmaids how much they can afford. If you love the dress, and they can't afford it, pitch in the extra money. I actually told my 3 out-of-state bridesmaids that their dresses were cheaper than they are, and I'm covering the rest...I feel so much better about my decision.

I agree. This was something I asked my girls before we went dress shopping. THat way there was no uncomfortableness at the dress store. I would talk to them.

The dress I like is expensive, but netbride.com offered it for $70 less making it much more affordable. I think I will let my bridesmaids choose whether they want this option or not. They will just need to find a local tailor if they need alterations.

I know exactly how you feel! I found a dress with my MOH the other day, and while I think it is reasonably priced compared to some others, ($200 - bf alterations), I have a couple of BM's that may not be able to pay that much. One girl is in the army and was in Iraq for 14 months (she just got back this week and won't be working for a little while). I can't make her pay for a dress!!! Is it bad if I just pay for hers?

Remember one thing, which is biting me in the butt and I feel really bad about it......keep in mind the cost for alterations. Lillette's is charging all my girls $70...and that's the cap, but they are having MINIMAL work done!! They also order the sizes too big, so to get you for alterations.
If you have or need a great seamstress, go to them, FM me and I'll give you an amazing one, which we will be taking the remaining BM's dresses to....

I was sick when I took my BP out to look for dresses... especially being the ones that I wanted were over $200. They both have children and I know personally I could not afford a dress over $200 & all the other BP expenses. So...with the help of the AMAZING LIW Brides...I found out about Netbride.com and save them a bundle... Save them so much I'm considering giving their dresses in addition to the other gifts.
