How much has to be paid to your photographer?

I am trying to book a photographer. I was told by some couples that most photographers only need 1/3 paid before the wedding day and the rest when you pick up your proofs. Is that what most people are doing?

That was what we are doing.

No...we gave them a 15% deposit when we signed the contract. Next we have to pay the balance - all but 15% of it 2 wks before the wedding. We pay the last 15% when we get our proofs.

we have paid 2/3 already... and then we will pay the balance when we get the proofs...
