Luckily my BM's gown were reasonably priced at $110.00 at Estelle's Dressy Dress. Coincidentally all three were the same size for the same exact gown and didn't need any alterations. The gowns didn't come with a wrap and I didn't ask them to purchase one either but if they wanted one it was fine with me. The shoes were not exactly the same style although they were the same color, gold for champagne gowns. Any accessories or add-ons such as hair, make-up and jewelry were all different also.
My Junior BM gown was $60.00 without tax in the same store as my adult BM's. However, we weren't sure about her size since her body is still growing. Her mother did give her size which MIL and myself pushed the size higher in anticipation of her growing body. Her mother got her shoes, a little evening bag, and I asked her to get a specific set of hair pins from David's Bridal as they're located almost all over the U.S. (Jr. BM lives in Boston and our wedding was in NYC). We also didn't need alterations for my Junior BM.
I wouldn't dare ask my BM to spend $200.00 and/or over for their attire including shoes, wrap, etc... because everybody's on a budget. IMHO, a fair price for BM's attire which includes gown, shoes, evening bag, wrap (if necessary), etc. is $150.00-$200.00 as $200.00 is the max--IMHO as you don't want to strain their budget.
Re: How much is fair to ask BM's to spend on their dress?
It all depends on the financial situation of your BMs...
My sister was contemplating a $250 dress...but her BMs were all well established, etc...
If you LOVE the dress you could...pay part of the balance...I did this for my BMS...to bring the cost down to $150...I had them get shoes that they could wear again (ie not dyed)
OR you could get them online...I know many brides have been happy with netbride...or try RK
remember...your BMs also have to get you a shower gift...pay for the shower...bachelorette party...and a wedding gift...

Thanks girls! The dresses i liked weren't really 'bridesmaids' dresses...i saw them in a.b.s. I am going to try and see if they can give me some sort of discount or maybe I will pay part of it.
