Ladies, how much money is to much to spend on your wedding?
Because I am finding out very quickly that weddings are very, very expensive. I am beginning to get worried that I might over spend. That won't be a good thing.

Is that including honeymoon, rings, wedding clothes for you and fh, limos favors. Everything!

Too much depends on what you can afford. I agree that weddings are super though!
I won't say what too much is because my 'too much' could be someone else's 'average' and I don't want to offend anyone...
IMO, if you and your FH have good paying jobs and you're comfortable spending it on this day that you won't be able to relive, then splurge!
My parents and FH are splitting the costs so I guess I'm lucky. I won't be working until '08 since I'm in school.

Yea I found my under $10,000 budget went out the window after the halls told me what they were going to cost...and that's just the hall!! I forgot to calculate tax when coming up with the total cost, oops.

I think that too much is when you can buy a house with your wedding budget. Not just a down payment, but actually buy a whole house
I know that my wedding is costing way more than I could imagine and it's hard trying to make ends meet. My dad doesn't think he should have to contribute to my wedding because they're stupid so FH and I have to pay for it ourselves and being two college kids working at Sears Hardware makes it very, very hard. But, it's completely worth it to us. I ask FH all the time if he'd rather just elope and save all the money, but he wants a real wedding and couldn't imagine it any other way. As long as you won't live your life regretting how much you spent (or didn't spend) on your wedding, then it's fine.

Totally agree!
Your budget depends upon what your situation is. I don't really even thing that there are approximate guidelines on what to spend. Like I've heard that when buying a house they say that your mortgage payment should equal approx. 1/2 of what you net in a month, which obviously will be different for each person. And an engagement ring is usually approximately 2 months salary
So a wedding is possibly 1/2 of your salary for the year? maybe...possibly...ummm....kinda lol I don't know

My original budget is $10,000(hall/wedding, dj, flowers, photo) for about 70-80 people and so far I am keeping it. But i haven't booked anything yet so it could change. I just am going on estimates from what I have received from inquiring on costs from vendors.
This does not include a honeymoon though because I doubt we will be able to afford one right away. If we find a good deal then fine but I rather save up to buy a house in the next five years.
I am cutting costs by not buying a new wedding dress (hopefully that is my plan) otherwise i buy a cheap gown since i only wear it once. Graphic Designer working in print shop so i design for free and print at cost.
My fh gave me a inexpensive engagement ring and wedding band under $1,000 which i am very happy with. I only have to buy his wedding band which will be around 100-200 because he wont wear it most likely anyway.
Some of the stuff I am doing is DIY to keep costs down also.

That was the same amount I started with, that was until we booked our hall. Then we we started looking at photographers, DJ, Limos, Favors, Honeymoon our children clothes our clothes and other things. We have to knowsit down and do our budget over.

Yea to be honest the childrens dresses are insanely expensive when you think about it. I was just looking at flower girl dresses for my niece and was horrified. Luckily I am not paying for that one IoI
Its going to be hard to keep that budget. i even looked into renting a hall and doing it myself but after I figured out how much work/time with the little help i would get from family members it wasn't worth it.

Your going to be all right. Depending on were you live I think you can really do it on that buget, especially because of the amount of people you are going to have. Just try to stay with that amount of guest and you all will be all right.
