How much is (too much) to ask a bridesmaids to pay for her dress?
I've chosen Jim Hjelm dresses for the girls and everyone is ok with the price. I just have one bm that is having an issue with paying for it. She will say, 'what about this dress'. 'Thanks but I don't like the style of the dress'
Do I accommodate her which will mess up the entire scheme? Or, do I kick her to the curb? Not to sound harsh but in addition to the dress she has given me other problems as well.
TIA for your input

i think you should try to accomodate her....its very expensive being a bridesmaid and she may really want to be there to support you but not be able to afford an expensive dress. I would try to find something similar but a little cheaper.

I am in love with several Jim Hjelm BM dresses. I feel bad asking my BMs to pay that much money, so I have found them online for significantly cheaper. Try perfect bridal.com if you are interested.
I don't think you can kick your BM to the curb soley on the dress. However, I also think that she shouldn't have accepted to be your BM if she was having financial problems. As a BM, you have to be aware that there are financial responsibilities. Maybe you could put some money towards the dress for her.

Well maybe those other girls can afford it and she can't. I wouldn't expect people to pay over a certain price for a dress they will wear once....especially since I'm not the one payin for it. If I was then it would be different.

well, what means more? your pocket or your girls having matching dresses?? why not take the cost of the dress she is willing to pay for and the cost of the dress u want..and pay the difference?
if shes just being cheap then say NO and REALLY MEAN, NO! if she truly is having a financial hardship, then def pay the diff.

I am having a similar issue. I don't think you should kick her out just because she can't afford the dress, but if she is doing other things that are bothering you, then maybe you would have a reason. I think you should talk to her in private about it, maybe she feels uncomfortable talking about it in front of everyone.
How much is the dress? A lot of girls on here say that more than 150 is too much and others say more than 200 is too much. I found dresses I like that are $195 and I have never myself paid more than $150 when I was a bridesmaid so I feel guilty. So, I am considering giving them a gift certificate for $50 to make up for the difference of what I wanted to spend. Could you maybe do this?

In order to try and balance out what they have to pay; I'm taking care of their shoes, DOJ, and makeup.

That's very nice of you. You could think of it that way then, you are reducing the overall cost of their attire for the day.

I agree with this idea - maybe pay the difference?

ITA or maybe help her with the dress as part of her Bm gift.

This is a topic that has come up so much on here and most of the time the response is usually around $200. However, my personal opinion is there is no limit. As a BM, I know that it is a very expensive duty so I purposely set money aside every month for all the weddings I'm in this year. Therefore, I would expect my girls to do the same. To be honest, I wouldn't mess up your whole scheme....I would ask her if there was someone you could help assist her in other ways. Definitely try to talk to her to see if there is something you could do to help without being harsh. Good luck!

I like the idea of paying for part of it, or her other expenses. Although then you'd probably have to do that with all of them..
I love Jim Hjelm BM dresses but I haven't seen them in person yet - how much do they run approx? tia

hey there.. i know jim hjelm dresses can be a little costly..but.. You should def look and see if Burtons has the jim hjelm dress you want.. For 2 of my friends weddings they both went to Burtons to order the dress cause they saved us about 40 bucks..so if you really love a particular jim hjelm dress I would check burtons first and see if they can do it cheaper then regular brides maid store. :) they are great!!:)
