How much is too much to ask your BM's to spend on their dress?
I know that in the past, all BM dresses I have encountered have all been under the $200 threshold. Closer actually to 150. Is over 200 really too much?

I think it depends on your girls.. you pretty much know there financial situations. For some girls its not too much at all. I knew my girls could not afford that much... granted had I asked them to spend it they probably would have.. but I didnt feel comfortable putting them in that position.
Lucky for me the dress I loved was only $133 and came with the shawl.

I'm paying for my BM dresses because I think it sucks to have to pay over $200 for a dress that they will most likely never wear again. But I only have a MOH and a BM.

I had that same problem - my girls fell in love with a dress that was $260 - i have two girls in grad school but they were willing to spend it because they liked the dress so much
But i found the dress on line for $162 at house of brides and pearls place - so i am ordering online and finding a seamstress for them to use

I have to tell you that it really depends on the girls- ESPECIALLY in terms of size. I am having my girls wear Bill Levkoff dresses which are under $200. One of my girls was in the higher size bracket and they charged her a fortune for the bigger size. The dress sizes were broken into 3 categories and she fell into the higher one. She picked one of the least expensive dresses and with the extra $$ tacked on for the bigger size and alterations (and tax of course) here dress ended up costing over $200 WITHOUT alterations. Si if you have any girls that are in the plus sizes, be careful for their sakes because they might be spending a heck of a lot more!

my girls are paying a little over $200 but the dresses are blue and black, so they are all going to wear the black strappy shoes that they already own and they all have black evening bags too.

Honestly, I have spent about $300 on a dress just to attend a wedding, so I thought under $300 was good. What I did was go to a store to try on a lot of dresses in all price ranges (all were under $230) and then our last stop was Vera Wang where the dresses they tried were about $280 or $290. They all loved the Vera dress the best and didn't mind spending the money.

Just ask your girl what they feel comfortable spending. That way, you don't have to feel bad or indecisive when looking at certain dresses.

I agree with the above, depends on your girls. The dresses i chose are close to 200, knowing that's expensive i didn't ask them to get matching shoes, their hair done (i'm paying for that if they want it), or make-up...so as far as bridal attire the dress with any alterations is the only required cost. I'm also almost 30 and my BMs will be 30 or older, established, married girls who are able to spend 50-70 more than i might have asked had i gotten married years ago. It also helps to ask, which i did.

It depends on how much disposable income your BMs have. For my girls, I probably wouldn't ask them to spend over $300. One of my BMs is in grad school and I've offered to help her out by paying for 1/2 the dress if she feels like she can't afford it.

i wouldn't ask them to spend over 150 and thankfully the dress is only 125..but then again its discounted from burtons so the ones who are out of state have to pay a little more because they aren't ordering through them..

Re: How much is too much to ask your BM's to spend on their dress?
I actually went to Bridal Reflections today in Massapequa and my girls were all very into their dresses. They are all Jim Hjelm which is not cheap, but not drastically overpriced. The thing is is that they are all wearing different style dresses in same color (ie. strapless, spaghetti, off shoulder, etc..). My MOH however are just wearing Jim Hjelm dresses but a shade lighter than the other girls'. So with that being said, all the prices are different and since they get to choose which dress flatters them the most, they can factor in the price if they want. Are there any places online I could get them their dresses cheaper for them? And the dresses are chocolate (mocha), so they don't have to buy those dyeable shoes right? Well I'm waiting for their Jim Hjelm sample event in January so I can possibly get the 10% discount. Thanks ladies for all the input.

Mine are Jim Hjelm too and I had the same battle with myself. He's not sold online BUT RK Bridal does sell him thru their no frills program. I got my Jim Hjelms for $162 (they were at least $230 every where else). Get the style number(s) and call RK, they'll give you a price over the phone. Definitely specify that you only want one of each dress though - that's always a higher price.

If they dont have to pay for anything else except for shoes its ok, other wise I think its too much see if you can get cheaper elsewhere
My dress is costing 106 before alterations and no more than 140 with at RK bridal
