How much of one color can you have in an a house?

I love blue, every shade, and everything i like winds up being blue.

In my kitchen i will be doing blue, marble looking counters, with light wood cabinets, an we will probably paint the walls yellow, but there will be a lot of blue accents, since that will amtch the winnie the pooh theme.

In my bedroom, we have 2 blue comforters, that we will alternate.

The den will have a brown and balck checked couch.

If I was to do blue's in the dining room and living roon, would it be too much?

My question I guess is how much is too much??

I love blue also. One day I went through my closet and realized how much blue clothing I own. I have blue in alot of my rooms in some way or another. Are you painting the walls in your LR & DR? Or are you just having blue as one of your accent colors? I dont know if I'd go with both rooms' walls painted blue but I think incorporating it into the decor is fine. Our LR and hall is painted sage green and I have light wood furniture. The drapes and decorative stuff like pillows are navy blue. The couch and carpet are cream colored. My dining room is painted blue, BM's 'denim blue' and I have a dark wood dining set. I ended up getting drapes with blue yellow and green vertical stripes but the seat cushions and table cloth are the same blue as the walls. I like all that blue.

Blue is not a trendy color so I think you can use it more liberally than you can some other colors.

I think as long as you and DH like it, is all that counts!!

Most things can be changed later on if you want.

I am just scared that people will refer to my house as the blue house.

I wanted a blue roof, blue shutters and blue siding!!!

Using the same color family throughout your entire house is a nice choice IMO. It actually give the house a larger fealing because the rooms arent broken up as much.

I think that using varying shades of a single color in some cases can actually make a house appear to have better 'flow.' Conversely, a house with too many colors can feel very disjointed....but it really depends upon how you decide to pull it off. Just don't let yourself fall victim to only accepting color on the walls! Mimicking blue throughout the house with varying accents and accessories can be subtle, but still accomplish your goal.

Claud, that sounded like professional advice, between what you said and how you worded it, you should write for the decorating magazines.

LOL, Liz! I just re-read what I wrote, and you have a point! I guess that's what happens when you write for a living AND then you marry a writer! Words are our 'thing'

My cousin LOVES blue she is addicted to it! In her house literally every room is blue! She has different shades in different locations (1 bathroom is white and lavander, but I think thats all that is not blue) anyway, her house looks like a pottery barn ad its gorgeous!
I think there are ways you can do it tastefully!

While house hunting my FH and I saw a house that looked like a cotton candy machine exploded! you walked in to the livingroom dining room combo which had cathedral ceilings. The walls were light pink the carpet was bright pink. the MBR as well as the other rooms had this same combo! It was disgusting! My FH was like, If I dont get out of here soon I am going to be sick! That is where too much of one color can be a bad thing!!!

I also realized our master bath has a blue tile floor, but the rest is white.
