How much of your religion's doctrines do you belive in?
How much of your religions precepts do you agree with? For me I'm Catholic, but I disagree with the church on many issues including
1) Jesus' purpose re: creation of a new church vs. a refom of judaism
2) Homosexuality and Homosexual Marriages
3) It's recent political moves. I.E the increible pressure to vote for Bush in the 2004 election despite the war that pope John Paul II himself called unjust and Bush's stance on the death penalty.
4) Creationism
5) All of the scary hellfire and doomsday stuff. People who think they talk to Jesus or see Mary. I believe some of it IS true, Miracles happen, But I also believe that there are a lot of nutcases out there who will do anything for attention.
I know this is sort of a hard question to answer

I was raised Catholic, but disagree with a whole lot.
I don't really go to any church at all right now, but I'd like to find one that I agree, or at least don't disagree with on most ideas, eventually.

Catholic here and survived many years of Catholic school.
I disagree with alot of the Church's teachings. The older I get, the more I learn, the more I question, and the more I disagree with!
To name a few:
I disagree with the Church's position on Birth Control I disagree with the Church's teaching that homosexuality is a sin Ever since I heard about the dead sea scrolls, I have issues with the fact that the Church still insists that Mass every Sunday is required; and I also question why these documents were discredited and brushed aside so quickly and so suspiciously. I have a problem with the belief that we are born with original sin on our souls and that's why baptism is required I have big issues with the way the Catholic churches (particularly here on LI - I don't know about anywhere else) are run; Bishop McGann is a real piece of work from my experiences though I don't even know if he is still the head of the archdiocese anymore.

I disagree with most of what organized Christianity is. There is so much fear, prejudice, power, sexism, judgement, racism, and overall hypocrisy - it's the EXACT OPPOSITE of EVERYTHING that Jesus taught. It's so ironic, it really makes me furious.
I could go on forever about this (raised in a born again Christian family, and am now an outspoken liberal, much to their horror) but one of the only scriptures I believe to be true is this:
GOD IS LOVE.
As far as I am concerned, the early church tampered and twisted and manipulated the scriptures to mean exactly what they wanted them to - it was more than religion then, it was politics and power.
I am a christian in the sense that I believe in the teachings of Christ.
Everything to do with doctrine and 'the rules' is man made.

As a reform Jew, I'm actually pretty happy with my religion. But reform Judaism is all about informed choices, all about thinking about the religion, learning all you can about a topic and then making an informed choice about it. It doesn't hold that homosexuality is a sin - there many Gay and Lesbian rabbis. It doesn't believe that the Bible (Torah and Talmud) is literally the 'word of God' and that everything in it is untouchable, but that it was written by men (divinely inspired men, but men nonetheless). It has thought and thought about issues and come to the conclusion that each person must decide for themselves, but that there is a framework and rituals and ideas that are over 5000 years old and also cannot be thrown out with the bathwater, that connect you to a higher power and provide for peace and thoughtfulness in our lives. I honestly love it and I'm at peace with religion for the first time in a long time.
