How much should I expect to spend on hair and makeup?
I got a call from a woman who was looking to chage me $50 for my make up trial, $150 day of, and $100 for a MINIMUM of 4 additional people. For just make up!! I'm assuming this is high end - I'm hoping, at least. How much is everyone spending??

The $150 for your makeup sounds about right from what I've heard from other brides. Is the $100 for each additional person? That's a bit on the high side I think. I think it's usually around $65-75 for anyone other than the bride.

$150 for you, and $50 for the trial is about right...but $100 for the others is high.
I know that a lot of hair/makeup stylists get screwed because they are told that they are doing makeup for say 7 people, and then the day comes, and members of the bridal party run out of money, and then don't want to get thier makeup or hair done the day of....which is probably why she's asking for a minimum....
try to barter a little, tell her that you want the bridesmaids done for $75, that $100 is too high, and see what she says. But whatever you do, get a contract written up-even if it's just handwritten-my sisters hairdresser hustled her for more money two days before the wedding, saying if she didn't get more money, she wouldn't do it.

Mine was around $55 for trial and $55 for day of, but I went to the salon. I went to Majestic Salon in seaford for both hair and makeup. I know if was a lot more when I was at first looking for people to come to the hotel.

Not usually. I was going to buy the lipstick, but she didn't have any new ones left, so she gave me some on a swab in a little case for free....

Generally, no. There was one trial I had with a woman in Oceanside and she said that I could either give her $50 for the trial or spend $50 on makeup at her counter (she had her own makeup line). That's not the norm though, at least in my experience.

Is it normal for people to use their own line of make up? The woman who gave me the original $150 + quote said it's her own stuff, which at the time I thought was kind of weird.

From what I've seen, I don't think it's normal. There were actually 2 makeup people I met with (I had a LOT of makeup trials!) that had their own line, but they both worked out of salons. A majority of the makeup artists I saw, however, do not have their own line and use a variety of products from different manufacturers. The favorites seem to be MAC and Bobbi Brown though.

Re: How much should I expect to spend on hair and makeup?
I paid $45 for trial, $135 for day of (airbrush) and $95 for my hair. My hair I got done at a salon & the makeup by Marie Katz (a vendor on here--highly recommend) came to my house. Makeup is pretty standard--I have been quoted $100 for regular makeup--Oksana (she is very good too--I had a trial with her). Hair though to get it done at your house is going to be $100 or more.
My Bms paid $65-75 for their hair and their makeup was $60 for traditional & $75 for airbrush.

Mine is $250 for day of, $125 for bridesmaids for hair...and same prices for makeup. It's expensive, but it's very important to me, so I'm willing to spend the $$$

Here's what I paid:
Makeup: Free Trial $250 for me, $75 for others (airbrush)
Hair: $50 Trial $100 for me and I think either $65 or $75 for the others for an updo and $40 blowout ( i locked in '04 prices)
