Re: how much should i save and where?

I'm putting money into a savings account for wedding stuff and into my regular savings and checking accounts as well. Our parents are hosting the wedding so my expenses aren't that crazy, but things do still add up.

I don't buy lunch anymore, maybe once a week if necessary and I don't go shopping anymore. I want to have as much money as possible saved up for our place. It's hard, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Re: how much should i save and where?

We dont have a set amount that we put away. We had a good amount set aside from our engagement party and that has covered all expenses to date. My tax return and bonus tjhis year will cover vendors. So, we are just saving for the honeymoon and all the little extras (My parents are paying for the reception)....and thankfully we have a while for that and dont expect a problem getting it all together (keeping fingers crossed).

Re: how much should i save and where?

I felt soooo guilty after reading this post that I automatically opened up an additional savings account online. I had a main savings and checking account and a CD prior to the wedding. Now with this wedding I only deposit into my savings account. I still have money in my CD though which does not mature until July. I now have another savings account that I will put additional money into separate from the wedding fund.

So thanks a bunch!!!!!

Re: how much should i save and where?

we have a joint account in which we match whatever one of us puts in and we also have an automatic withdrawel every week too that contributes to that as well...

Saving stinks and its freaking hard. I guess it'll be worth it the end.

Now mind you, I have 3 'private' accounts in which I stash money as well, like my ING direct account, which I love! Thats automatically deducted from my paycheck each week too... and it will hopefully help in the future with things for the house, like furniture or something...

Re: how much should i save and where?

We just opened up a joint account. When we get paid each week, we take what we need for the week, then divide the rest by three: 1/3rd into our personal savings for the future (but also is back up for wedding), 1/3rd for our own bills, 1/3rd into the joint account.

Plus any gifts go into the joint account automatically. And we save coins and when we cash them they also go right into the joint account.

Re: how much should i save and where?

its been tough the last few months with FH being laid off and my car not wanting to behave. I try to put $200 bucks in our joint account every pay check so thats like $400 a month. I have all my credit cards paid up and I have very few bills. SO I may start to put more $$ away.

Any other checks we receive tax, birthdays, holidays go into the joint savings no questions asked.

Re: how much should i save and where?

Thanks everyone.

I usually pay all of next months bills with my last paycheck from the previous month so luckily the remaining 1 or 2 paychecks don't need to go to bills at all. I was just curious to see how everyone else was doing it too.

I think once FH and i have a decent amount saved i wanna put some $ into a cd cuz this 1.65% apr isn't cutting it lol.

my check has a certain amount deposited into an account to pay rent and my car, then some goes into my savings and the balance is for my credit cards and spending money.
i work for my dad's business as well at home so i use that money plus extra money to go into the wedding account.
john has money sepearate for his bills and then his spending money and then he transfers a portion every week into the account.

we also put all extra money in there form birthdays, taxes, or if we win money from sports pools.
i also signed up for 'keep the change' with my bank and everytime i use my debit card it rounds up and transfers the change to an account. ive saved $145 just from the change over the past few months.

i just signed up for that .. im glad to hearits working out for you .. im more excited to do it now lol
