The invites I've been drawn to all end up costing over $1000. Is this the average price or am I just being too extravagant?

i didn't make a selection in your poll. only because it really depends on you, your priorities, and your budget.
i wante invites that were going to run me... shoot, i forget the exact amount... somewhere between 500 and 700. i couldn't justify spending that. so i diy-ed it. they ended up being less than 200. it took FOREVER to make them. but the complements i've gotten have been worth every fight i had with fh because i wanted them to be PERFECT.

im inviting 175 and im hoping not to spend more than $500........i know its going to be difficult but we are going to try

You can't go based on overall cost. You need to go on cost per invite. Someone who sends out 300 inviations will spend more than someone that sends out 100.
Do a search of the boards. Someone asked the question with a poll using cost per invite in the last two months.

it depends on ur budget, im having a wedding of 320 guests around...and am splurging on flowers decor, photographers, invitations are important to me because its like the start of ur wedding but i would never spend 1k or over on just invitations... just my opinion!
