between your ceremony and reception? are you trying to get to the reception for coctail hour or are you taking pics then? and are you going to have people go somewhere in between, like a house or bar? we have been thinking of doing this, but dont want people to poop out of the reception early because of a long day. thanks!
Ours are back-to-back and we are doing pictures before the ceremony.

Re: how much time are you leaving?
My daughter is doing a 2:00 church ceremony. There will not be a receiving line so church should be over about 3. She wants to take pictures at Old Westbury Gardens and then the reception will begin at 6:30. All parents will go with them for the pictures. Word will be spread for all important extended family to be at the reception hall at 6 for some formal pictures and the bride and groom plan on attending as much of the cocktail hour as they can.
The groom's family will be getting rooms at a hotel, so they expect them to go there for the time in between to freshen up and then leave their cars and take the shuttle bus which will be provided to the reception.
Much of our family is local and can go to their own homes, but those from CT and NJ will be invited to my home. I will arrange for a lady to be at the house, clean up from the morning chaos, turn on the large coffee urn, and put out fruits and small pastries.
We did something similar for my son's wedding and it was well appreciated by all, especially the senior members who did want a place to sit and put their feet up for a bit.

I am with alias... 3 pm wedding/6:30 reception Mind you, I was the one that didn't want a big gap, but there seems no other way to do it.

Re: how much time are you leaving?
My ceremony was at 4:30, my cocktail hour was at 7. We didn't have too much time in between but we took all of our pictures at our reception place. It was plenty of time. We even caught half of the cocktail hour.
