How much time between church and reception?

How much time between church and reception?

I'm trying to decide what time to put on my invitations. I'm having a 100 person wedding, and the majority of the guests are family. I know that after the wedding ceremony that is going to be held in a church, we'll be taking tons of group/family photos. The reception place is literally five minutes from the church (people could walk if they wanted). I think the ceremony will be pretty short, say 20 minutes, and the reception starts at 6:30 pm. Is a 4:00 pm invite time to the chuch OK? Or should I put 4:30?

i don't want any down time in between the church and reception, so we are having a 2:00/2:30 ceremony (still unsure) and a 4:00-9:00 reception. the distance between church and restaurant is about 30 minutes (depending on traffic), and we will have a mini receiving line afterwards.

we anticipate ~100 guests as well and don't want to take too many formal posed pictures (15-20 minutes max). from what i see i am not the norm when it comes to this, most girls leave anywhere from 2-4 hours for picture taking...

If there is a big gap between the ceremony and reception then you have to worry about some people not even attending the ceremony, especially if they live far away.

We are having our ceremony at 2 and the CH is going to start at 6:30...Our ceremony will prob be about 1/2 hour long and we are inviting about 200 people. We may set something up inbetween for people that come from far, but I don't think we really have many. You are getting married the same day I am, so remember is you want pics outside, the sun starts to go down around 4:00. That is why we are having a big gap...

This is very interesting. I know I would be pissed to go to a ceremony and have such a huge gap until the reception. I mean what would I possible do for all those hours?

Our ceremony is also at 2, and the cocktail hour does not start until 6:30. I am expecting our ceremony to last about 1 hour, and we may have a receiving line. 1/2 our wedding is from OOT. I have told these people to use the time to change and get ready for the reception. I dont care if people are not all dressed up for the ceremony. My CH also offers champagne, coffee drinks, and pasteries before the cocktail hour if people arrive a little early!

our ceremony is @ 3:30 and the cocktail hour begins @ 6. both the church and the hall are in the same city! so i guess it will be about 1 1/2 hours of in between time once the church is over.

don't worry if you have a gap between ceremony and reception...sometimes it is inevitable. your guests are adults and can figure out what to do with themselves for a bit! you are giving them a great party!

Our ceremony is at 5:00 ( friday night) and our cocktail hr starts at 8:00 , but our ceremony is in copiague, reception in Smithtown...we expect the ceremony to be about 30 minutes, then receiving line etc, so an hr tops and our hall has a cash bar lounge they will open 20 minutes earlier then cocktail hr so I hope we dont have guests waiting too much....the most recent wedding I went to had a 3 hr break and it was fine( we all went to a bar inbetween!) Even the grandma!

I think 4 is good. You don't want to rush the day. Leave a little time in between the church and reception to take pics and relax a bit with your new husband. People will find something to do if there is a gap in time.
