How much to preserve your gowns?

How much to preserve your gowns?

Hey Ladies, I just wanted to know the average price to get your dress cleaned and boxed. I got two quotes one for 200 and the other for 150. Quite a difference. I've heard of getting your dress preserved. Is it the same or is it a different process than that of the cleaners? Thanks

I know nothing of LI pricing on this, but having worked in a cleaners before and worked with the wedding dresses, I can tell you that in reality, all they do is clean it, press it and essentially stuff it in an 'acid-free' box with 'acid-free paper.' There is no point in spending a fortune on it. And I highly suggest that you take it somewhere that will do it on site for the sake of not having to worry about lost dresses....and so you can ask to witness the 'boxing' so that you make sure it's YOUR dress, veil, purse, etc...that goes in the box. This way, 6months, 5 years...20...whatever...when you decide to peek....yes, you can take it out and look at it, you don't discover a missing veil, that your veil is missing or GULP, this isn't your dress!

And for storage....under a bed or in a closet is the most ideal place...a basement or attic is a horrible place to store your dress due to temperatures and humidity.

The store I worked in charged $150 to clean, press and box a dress...that was in NC though..LI could be more or the same.

I went to another place today and got quoted for 180. She said it would be ready in three weeks and that they place it in an airtight bag and then in the box. I'll see if I can get her down to 150. I just wanted to know what the average price was. Thanks ladies.

I also used Concord Cleaners in Wantagh. I was very happy with there results and they also boxed up my dress with whatver else I wanted to save for free so I also put in my:

Garter
Tiara Veil
pocketbook made by my MIL

they did a great job and it costed $120.00 and I had it done in 3 weeks they told me longer but it was finished earlier.
