What said $2000?? You'd have to have 400 people at your wedding for that to make sense. IF you can afford 400 people you shouldn't be worried about how much the maitre'd is getting! Holy crap!

If you $5 for 200 people, that's $1K. Our wedding, if we do $4, will be about $600.

PS, the $3-5 is standard regardless of your venue. If it's a less expensive venue, do closer to $3. If it's a more expensive venue, do $5 or even more if you choose. I wouldn't do less than $3 though.
