I have been calling hotels all day. The cheapest I was quoted was $159 plus tax. YIKES! My guests need to stay 2 nights I can imagine the complaints I'll hear. Plus I want to bus everyone from the hotel to the church to the hall. Suggestions for hotels near garden city or westbury. Thanks ladies

Re: How much were the rooms you blocked?
Not to ask a dumb question but, does it cost anything to actually have the hotel block out the rooms for you? The way I am viewing it is that its money they are losing b/c they have to hold these rooms for you, for potential guests to book, and the guests may not even book at all! We need to block some rooms too, but I haven't started calling places yet. Also - do you book a hotel near the RH or the church? My church is Greenlawn and my hall is Roslyn - nowhere near each other. Should I attempt to book a hotel in between? Just curious!

Re: How much were the rooms you blocked?
That $159 rate may be because of the time of year you are booking. Winter rates are lower on LI, and higher in the summer.
Our primary hotel (also our RH) is $139 per night for the group rate, and our secondary hotel is $129 for the group. But again, we are a December block, so we're getting a discount. These rooms in the summer would be closer to $200 per night.

We are in a similar situation (church in Centerport, RH in Pt Jeff). Our main hotels are near our RH b/c that's where people will end up at the end of the night. And after an evening of food and drink, I wouldn't want them to have to drive all the way back to Huntington/Melville to sleep. I'd say book your blocks (set up two if you can so in case one gets filled you have overflow room) close to your RH, but suggest some hotels that are near your church.
updated (forgot to mention): sometimes it does cost to have a block. A hotel near our RH requested that we personally guarantee the rooms (we would have had to plunk down half of the rates on the rooms in the block when we booked the block), so we said no to that. At our primary hotels, we just had to sign a contract stating that they'd set aside rooms for us at a certain rate, and if they weren't booked by whatever deadline (a month out from the wedding) they would be released to the general hotel stock and the wedding rate could not be gotten at that point.
Good luck!

We don't pay anything to block off rooms so long as they are filled. Each hotel is different. y block needs to be booked a month before the date or the rooms go back into the hotel's inventory. I am actually shuttling guests from one hotel (holiday inn) westbury to the church and hall and back to the hotel. good luck. xoox, k

I wouldn't pay anything to book, and don't guarantee anything. We had the Courtyard Marriott for $129, I think.

Re: How much were the rooms you blocked?
We booked 10 for Best Westin for $129 per night and 10 rooms Marriott Courtyard at Plainview for $149. We booked our closest and most favorite family member at Garden City Hotel - that one is very pricey

We got $139/night with them when they were Wingate. i'm assuming if we have more guests than booked rooms they will have to pay the new rate.
