How much would you give...

as a gift for an out of town wedding? are you supposed to give an actual gift instead of a check?

I think that you can give whatever you feel is necessary. It is expensive to go to an out of town wedding. You could even send a gift before the wedding if you want. Depending on where the wedding is might depend on the gift also. People in other states do not give as much as us silly new yorkers!

I agree. We had to go to an oot wedding and with the added expense of flying there and paying for accomodations, we didnt give as much as we usually do. Whatever you can afford would be fine. Im thinking $150-$200

I agree with the $150 - $200 gift suggestion. It also depends where the wedding is being held. We went to a wedding upstate and everyone told us to give $100. We did but I felt so guilty about that. From now on it's the 150-200 price range for us.

Depends...who is it?

Fi and I flew to Italy for his cousin's wedding. It cost us $600 to get there. We gave her $250.

His other cousin got married in NY. It was only a 2 hour car ride, but we've had drama with that cousin, so only have him $200.

It's a co-worker who is also a friend. The wedding is in Ohio, by the way.

Just be careful if it's in a state where they don't do things as big as we do in NY.

When I went to a wedding in Central PA recently (a good friend from HS) we gave $200. Turns out we gave waaaaay more than some of the family was giving them because it was only $20 a plate. I was still fine with the amount, but apparently we offended some people.

I guess it depends on the culture of the state/town. Not everyone does things like New Yorkers do!!
