How should I handle this (sorry long vent)

How should I handle this (sorry long vent)

So i know that my shower is sometime next month and today i find out that the invites went out. I should be happy right??? I then get a phone call from one of my best friends and she proceeds to tell me that my sister (MOH) didn't invite her to my shower. A little background on the situation is my sister and me friend are not on speaking terms for the last 6 years- fault of my sister unfortunately. My friend didn't want to tell me but she felt that it wasn't right to not invite her out of spite given the fact that it is MY day and that i would ask why she wasn't there. My friend is on my list that I gave her as well as her mom and then i find out her mom got an invite and not my friend. How screwed up is that??? I want my friend there- I don't have an overload of friends coming and the few that i want invited should be there. I don't know what to do and it saddens me that people forget who's day it really is. You plan to have 1 wedding, 1 shower in your life (god willing) and the most impt people in ur life should be a part of it even if some don't get along.

If you included your friend on the invite list you gave your sister, then your sister is 1000% WRONG for NOT including her.

This is YOUR day, and your sister needs to just 'let it go' for the day!

I would tell your sister you know your friend wasn't invited and that it needs to be rectified BY HER!

It is your day, is someone other then you sister involved that you can talk to, like your mom about inviting your friend? I would bring it up to someone, you sound like you'd be upset without your friend there and you do deserve to have the people you love there, and your sister should be a bigger person then that.

I think you have to step in and unfortunately say something to your sister. It is YOUR day and you want your friends there.

I have been sitting here contemplating how to deal with the situation without blowing up and telling her that the shower can go to hell. I already know that it will be a screaming match between my sister & I. So much is going on now between work, the wedding and possibly buying a co-op I feel this is sooo undeserved. My sister plans on telling me about it on the day of the shower. WTF I think that's even more screwed up of her to put me in a position at my own shower not to make a scene.

Thank you all so much for your hugs and advise. I just feel so upset about the situation.

hmmm..that's a tough one---so sorry you're going through this. I would try to talk to your sister or maybe your mom? Your friend should DEFINETELY be there and that was wrong of your sister. That is a bad position for you to be in I hope it all works out!

I think you have to say something, it is your shower. Not your sisters, she needs to put her predjudice aside for the day to make you happy. Good luck

honestly, i would just tell your friend to come to the shower. if her mom got an invite, she should have all the info. i think what your sister did was 100% wrong - so it would serve her right if your friend showed up. maybe give a heads-up to your mom so your friend is included in the head count.

good luck!!

Unfortunately my mom has no role in my wedding so the thought of asking her of telling her has no bearing. I did think of having my friend just show up with her mom however she is pregnant and I am concerned that if she does show what's not to say my sister won't make a scene. I cannot risk having my friend that upset about this and possibly affecting the child she is carrying. This really sucks... It is supposed to be a happy time and all the stress i've received has not been with MY planning but with all the people around me.
Thanks for all your opinions and support

I completely agree with the other girls. Your sister needs to grow up.

Sorry you have to deal with this

I would either just tell your friend to come, since she does have the info from her mom's invite or can you get another member of your bridal party involved? Tell them to call her so that there will be a seat for your friend.
