we are hoping to have one before or shortly after the wedding. we shall see what happens.

I voted 2-3 years because its my personal goal, hopefully we can make it come true.

we were thinking of getting a condo soon after we get married, but it looks like that will not happen at this point...

the original thought was to buy a condo, hold on to it a few years, and then buy a house. i think now we are going to forgo the condo option, save some more ca$h (2/3 years) and go for a larger house we can grow into instead! i don't think it's such a bad option given what the market is doing lately. hopefully it will correct itself when we are ready to buy!

We have one already BUT we no longer live in NY.
I think if we lived in NY still we would still probably own one but our finances would be very different due to property taxes.
Our house was as much as a house in NY but we pay less than 1% property tax so that's what makes the big difference and the whole cost of buying out here is less.

I said 'before the wedding' but we'll be buying a co-op, not a house. we'll probably buy a house 2 yrs after we're married.

We're in the process of buying one now. But we're upstate not on LI, if we were on LI then this would not be an option until after the wedding.

W ehave been saving for 2 years for the wedding and house. We actually were going to buy a house this summer but just now decided against it. One of the reasons is that I want to move off of Long Island and go to warmer weather. I also want to only have to work p/t when we have children, and even though that is like 5 years from now, if we stayed on LI wI would have to work f/t. Now we are thinking about buyaing a co-op so we wont have to worry about home improvements, landscaping, etc. It will be about the same price as renting and when we decide to leave we can sell it and make money back, where in renting it would be lost.

We already have ours and I can't wait to move in after wedding! FH lives there now and we are so thankful we were able to buy something before the wedding otherwise we would not have been having the wedding we are!

Probably about 5 years from now for us...we plan on having kids soon after the wedding and want to try to afford a house by the time the first starts school so we will be able to stay in one place, we are bad savers ( we basically just started saving with the wedding) so it'll take us about 5 years to be able to truly afford a mortgage and have kids without having to want for anything....

We are hoping to buy a house within six months after getting married....one year max. We both really want one!

I am in contract now and should be closing by the end of May. It's stressful at times, but we feel its worth it. BTW, we are paying for most of the wedding ourselves (small gift from my mom) and we bought a small house that needs to be extended and worked on, but worth it.
