seems like all of you 2009 brides are gettign a lot booked so my quesiton is what do you think about time frame for your dress and BM dresses? my little wrinkle is i think i need to go a year or more ahead since i have out of town sis/MOH. is this summer/late spring too early for the dresses for fall '09
that's what i was thinking everything kind of done about year before

I think I am going to start looking in the summer for my dress and later for BM dresses. But I do want to pick a BM dress before I do flowers.

we're going to look for BM dresses and my wedding dress at the very end of May (so about 1 year before)

Sometimes dresses can take 6+ months to arrive from the designer. Mine arrives in November. Because I am petite, they are cutting everything differently, so when we do alterations we don't need to mess too much with the beading and lace. Plus if you start your search early, that gives you time to do to lots of different stores and figure out what you really want, instead of feeling rushed and possibly taking something that you aren't 100% sure about.

My wedding is in September but I asked all of my girls to have their dress ordered by August. A lot of them live out of the area [plus there are 12 of them] and I just don't want to be bothered with hunting them down.
I think around the 1 year mark is good but if you want to allow yourself more time there is nothing wrong with that. Do what you want, it's your day!

I too feel like I am behind, because a lot of 09 brides have a look booked and ordered. However I haven't even officially asked my BP yet, and won't till July. And I know if I asked the girls to go look at dresses already they would be like 'are you crazy'. I plan on starting to look for dresses for myself mid april-may. I know some companies it takes 1-1.5 years for a dress to be made and come in. I think I will go look with the bridal party no sooner then a year before the wedding (which would be in Sept).

I am going a year before my wedding for my dress and if the girls want to look for theirs too we can go the same time....but no sooner than that. In my opinion I think it is crazy for going to get your dress any earlier. I want to enjoy the planning and not get too much done too quickly and then have nothing to do the year of my wedding.
So take you time and don't stress. Go at your pace...

I'm going to start looking for my dress around December/January for my October '09 wedding. I've read typically you should get your dress 8-10 months before to allow time for ordering/alterations.
I will start looking for BM dresses shortly after that.
Although I wish I could do it right now, I have been losing a lot of weight and plan to lose more, so I can't buy it yet...there's only so much you can take in a dress before you compromise the shape.
I don't think this summer is too early, especially being that you have out-of-towners in your BP.

I bought my dress already, and some dresses take months and months to come in . . . one company I saw needed 35 weeks!!!! It's also helping me decide what style and color I want my girls in and let me tell you, that's becoming a much harder decision than my own dress, which when I put it on, I knew . . . .
I feel like I am behind too. I don't even WANT to start looking until I lose some weight. I hope to start shopping sometime this summer. Hopefully I will find something a year before - b/c I think that is really when you are supposed to 'order' it by.

I'd say about a year before. It takes a few months for the dress to come in and then another month or so for alterations. Obviously it all depends on the place and the designer.
