We've booked the hall (also where we're having our ceremony), the band & photographer...we're getting married 9/3/04.
Is it too soon to research florists & places for inviataions? Is there such a thing as 'too soon'?? I thought we'd 'relax' over the summer - I'd just be looking for my dress & the BM dresses - and think about the other vendors at the end of the year.
Is there an advantage to booking a florist now/soon? (As far as pricing goes? or is that irrelevant in the florist world?)
Thanks!!

Re: How soon is too soon?
I am getting married a week after you and I have almost everything. I have booked all my vendors except the florist which I am going to be booking in the summer. I have also purchased almost everything that I need for the wedding. I have also already orderd my gown and BM dresses.

I think the sooner your book your vendors, the better. At the very least you get the advantage of locking in the prices as they are today. I am sure that in another six months or so, all of your vendors will be more expensive.

I would start looking at invites, b/c they took me a while to decide on. But I would wait with the booking of the florist until a bit later on... I think its too early. But you can start meeting with florists and discussing things, just don't quite book yet. I don't think pricing for florists changes much.

Hey,
I'm getting married the day after you. :-) I've tried to get most of my 'minor' stuff earlier. It helps so that you don't have to be stressed out about it later on. And in some cases things might get booked. (Florists, make up artists, etc). Just go to a shop and look through invitations and find out what the average time it takes for them to come in. That should really determine when you decide on them.

I don't think there's a too soon but I think you can take the summer off if you want to.
I had just about the same time frame as you and spent the first summer looking at pictures and getting ideas for flowers and ordering invitation catalogs and samples.
I think it would be a good idea to check out florists at the end of AUgust/beginning of Sept so you have a very good idea of the flowers in season that time of year.

It never too early to start looking around especially if you want to get an idea on what things are going to cost!

Re: How soon is too soon?
I didn't think florists' prices changed from year to year - like the hall would - I always assumed it was based on the flowers chosen. (I really thought we'd get 2003 prices for our photographer since we booked so early but they quoted us with 2004 prices.)
I figured with invites I'd have to order them by late Feb/very early March of 2004 so I was going to look around at the end of this year. Money isn't an issue so I guess I could book all the major stuff now and do the little stuff throughout the year. Ugh, I keep going back & forth.

I would still research and make appointments with other vendors. You may find better deals now than next year and I'm sure their schedules will be lighter during the summer...easier to make appointments.
