Hey ladies, FH and I started looking for apartments a few weeks ago. We both currently live at home and its how we've been able to save up for the wedding. We saw an apartment we liked yesterday and are unsure if we should take it. Our wedding is a little less then 5 months away. I don't know if now is a good time or if we should hold off another month or two to save more money. You ladies that are renting, how long before the wedding do you plan to move in?
I don't want to have the stress of moving close to the wedding but then again I dont want to spend money that we could be saving? Ughhh ... I DONT KNOW!!! HELP ME LADIES!!!

It really comes down to what you CAN do.....
write it all out-- if it makes sense and you can swing it-- you should move if it looks a little tight on paper then you should probably wait.... this is just my opinion though

We are in the same boat as you. Ideally, we'd like a lease that starts May 1st, to give us time to move in, get settled, etc.
We'll probably start REALLY looking for a place in March.

ITA - I think it depends how much you have left to save for the wedding and if swinging rent and saving for weddings is possible. FH and I found a place and are hopefully moving in end of March once the renovations are do. In the mean time we are each putting twice the usual amount of money away for the wedding until we move in.

We're doing something similary except we're probably going to start looking in April. FH would probably move in so thta we're not throwing away rent and i'll move in after we get married. We just dont want to look to early and find something right away - i'm also fearful that it'll take us longer than two months... i guess 2-3 months before is a good amount of time.

We're waiting until after the wedding to buy a house. We currently live together but in my parent's basement! We want to get out now lol but we really want to wait to buy a house and save

FH have been renting for the past 2 years. I'm sure it would be easier to save for the wedding if we didn't have to worry about rent and bills on top of it but we wanted to live together first. Plus it was more convenient for us as well since I am originally from the Bronx and we were basically paying $11 in toll fares a day just to see each other.

Depending on how much you love the place, I say wait until you get a bit closer. I know that's a pain to move in and do last minute weddings things, but it will definately help you save money. Especially, since most places will ask for 1st & last months rent + security deposit + broker fee if you're working with one - this was the majority of the cases when we looked to rent, and it definitely adds up!
Also, normally, there's more apartments available on the market during the warmer times of the year vs. now because most people don't like to move during the winter - HTH!
This is something you probably already know - but each time we moved, we had so many additional expenses we didn't anticipate with buying things for the house. Especially if you're getting all new things - i.e. furniture, all of that really adds up, so I would just put it as part of your budget tracking if you haven't already (even things like going to Target and spending 100's of dollars on little things )

Totally agree w/ this. Moving really adds up and most of the time its those little expenses that you dont think about. Even if you guys have furniture already you'll still need to do a major food shopping and get all the essentials. I'd say try to save as much as possible and wait another few months. Hopefully by then the major stuff for the wedding will be mostly paid off then you can concentrate on building you and FH's home.

ITA and also if you found the place that you really like and would rather move now to get it over with before the wedding, you should. That would take a lot of unecessary stress from you.

Re: How soon is too soon??? HELP
its really up to your gut feeling...
my FH and I moved in together in Oct. and I am so thankful we moved in before we got married!!! There was definitely an adjustment period. I had lived alone on my own for many years but he has always lived with his parents. He went through home sickness and struggled with getting used to the fact that I am not his mother and don't pick up after him. I highly recommend moving in before.
