How soon to order gown?

How soon to order gown?

Here's the background. We're booked for Dec 2006, but we had been thinking of postponing for a year. Now we're thinking we may be able to keep our date and if we are we have to move quickly with vendors, etc. I also want to lose at least 40 lbs for the wedding. How soon should I order my gown? Since I want to lose so much weight, I don't want to order it too soonb because there's only so much they can take a gown in, but I also don't want to wait so long that I'll run out of choices. When do you think I can/should order? Does anyone know how long it takes to order certain designers? Like, who was your designer, and how far in advaance did you ahve to order?

TIA

i've read you should order a dress 8-12 months before a wedding.

You can order a dress...just order it in a smaller size than what you are measuring now. BUT you better make sure you lose the weight or you will have a major problem!!! (I ordered mine one size smaller - it keeps me motivated) Good luck.

Oh I'm too scared to do that!!! But maybe it would force me! I think I defintiely will lose weight this time rather than previous times b/c I just found out for sure that I have mild hypothyroidism, so I just started medication for that, so that may help the problems I've had losing weight before...because previously I just had such a slow metabolism... Maybe I will order a size smaller. I'll wait until January to order it. Maybe I'll have lost a size by then anyway!

You should NEVER order a gown in a smaller size. It is so much easier to take a dress in a few sizes than to let it out one size. Once you have a set date, you should order it. they say 8-12 months, but salons will rush it for you if your date is closer

If I didn't order my dress in a smaller size it would look like a circus tent when it came in! I've already dropped 15 pounds since I ordered it!!!

Thank you! It's best to keep your goals modest - that way you won't put too much pressure on yourself. You just have to really want it bad enought to make it happen. You can do it - just picture yourself in that beautiful dress!!!

Order the dress, it can always be altered. I wouldn't go too much less than a year. If you lose the weight, thats awesome, but if you don't then thats great too, you will still look beautiful.
Don't wait to lose weight, thats putting pressure and stress on yourself that you don't need. Order your dress, and what ever happens, happens. Don't order small though because then you could be setting yourself up for major problems!

I would look for the dress you want and ask the salon how long you need to order it in time for the fittings you will need. Start your weight loss process and then order the dress when they tell you the last possible time you can order it. See how your weight loss attempts are going before you commit to a size. I only had a 10 month engagement and ordered my dress at the 9 month marker. My dress will be in in the middle of November for a wedding they think is two weeks before it really is. I would never order a dress too small. Things happen. I ordered a dress in the correct size and I ended up losing about 6 pounds recently due to stress. Some people gain, some people lose. 6 pounds in my dress will make a difference.

I'm not getting married until next October but found my dream dress at a trunk show yesterday so bought it. I have more than enough time. I think nine months or longer is a good time to buy.
