Re: How to address invitations....

I just did my invitations tonight. It took us a while to look up the proper etiquette of writting them out. This website helped me http://www.southworth.com/page.php?id=127

For the outter envelope:
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith
- you have to write out the 'and'
- it doesn't matter if is for an entire family... the other names go on the inner envelope
-you have to write out the addresses including the state, street, avenue, road, etc., no abbriviations

Mr. Joe Smith and Ms. Karen Davis
- if they are not married but at the same address

On the inner envelope:
Mr Smith and Mrs. Smith,
- No first names

If there is a whole family invited:
Mr. Smith and Mrs. Smith,
Mike, Nick, Emily
- The children are listed by first name
-Children are listed by age

Good luck!!! it took me forever:

I was thinking the same, but then again I got myself into big trouble with bad etiquette (my sister wrote Mr Lopez on the outside of a card and then Mr & Mrs Lopez on the inside - and now the family is not attending our wedding because we offended the wife)

wow! That's a little ridiculous! I think it looks prettier with the '&' especially in calligraphy! I think I'm going to stick with it! If someone gets offended over it then I think they seriously need to seek mental help!
