Just wondering, there are so many hotels and I want to pick a decent hotel that isn't run down or cheap looking, I was thinking of taking a day and visiting each hotel in the area to see the a room, anyone else have any suggestions?

Re: How to Decide on Hotels to Block for OOT guests?
I called a few hotels before to inquire about blocking policies and rates and then made appts to see some rooms.
I decided on Quality Hotel (Hempstead) and LI Marriott (Uniondale) to accommadate for all budgets.

I found hotels as close as possible to the recpetion hall and then called for prices... we also visited the hotel before we booked...FH parents are from OOT so they stayed there one weekend before we blocked off rooms...

that really is the best way - i checked them out on the web - then made appointments to see rooms - be sure to take the polaroid cause after the first few they all look the same - take some pics and put them down for a few days then look and decid3e what was best - a big selling point for me was the shuttle service - this way we dont have to worry about drunk wedding guests

Good, I thought I was being anal about seeing the rooms - but I guess not. Thank you all.

I'm using the Huntington Hilton....I have not seen the rooms, but I think it will be fine anyway. I am also looking into a more budget conscious choice as well.
While I am concerned about my guests' safety and do want to make sure they are comfortable, reserving a block of rooms is a courtesy, not a requirement.

you might want to consider
-cleanliness
-the proximity to the reception
-price

we based ours on proximity, price and shuttle service. we never even looked at the rooms and we gave our guests only one choice for the block. i've been extremely happy with the service thus far. we booked at the holiday inn express in stony brook.

I also booked holiday inn express in stony brook. I live around the corner. I really liked that they had all the rooms available that I needed. Hampton Inn is affiliated with them but they could only offer me 10 rooms. They were booked with 3 other weddings. Holiday Inn Express in Stony Brook had no other weddings planned for August so far and provided the shuttle service! I have over 40 people coming from OOT.
