So, we finally agreed on a place for the RD. FH is in the air force and they have a NCO Club/Bar on base. It's basically a big room, like a VFW. But it was the cheapest and easiest for us since we're footing the bill.
My question is .. how should I decorate it to make it look less like a military bar? I mean, I can't change things on the wall ... but I'm afraid just some balloons and tablecloths will look cheap.
Ideas?!?!

One of the quickest fixes for any room is made by dimming the lights and having a lot of candles.
If the RD is the night before the wedding, I dont know that I'd go crazy with decorations, because you dont want to have to stay too late cleaning the room up.
Maybe you can move some of the tables so you are using less of the room and the seating is more intimate?
Add some tablecloths, some framed pics of you and FH and fill room with family and friends - you'll be having such a nice time that you wont notice or care what the room looks like!

great ideas! Thanks!!! the rd is friday and we get married sunday, but i still don't wanna 'over do it'. i really like the family picture idea and will put out some candles!!

How about american flags??! FH is in the Army and I truly believe in american flags. I got a few for our wedding at Michaels. They are small on a wooden stick.... 50 cents each!I know im not much help, but i thought it would be a nice touch since he's in the airforce.

My friend just did a really cute idea for her shower. SHe had a fish bowl, some rock on the bottom with a Beta fish swimming in it. THen she placed a tall skinny vase inside the fish bowl and put some flowers in the vase. Then she had little bowl type vases all over with some flowers in it. Very cute and inexpensive. she got the vases and bowls at Micheals and the flowers were daisy's and pink baby's breath. It looked really nice and you could put lots of tea light candles around too.

from momma l. i like the idea of putting tables in a more intimate and close setting so everyone is kind of all together; also the beta fish idea, but that can run into money, depending upon how many tables there are. maybe just a few fish bowls and then flower bowls on alternate tables? let's go to michael's together and see what they have!
