How to get ordained in New York State

Hi everyone- curious if anyone has gone through this process, I'm reading up on it online but there are SO many conflicting websites and can't find one straight answer:

Has anyone had a friend become ordained so that they could officiate their marriage? How did they go about doing this and was it recognized on Long Island (specifically Nassau County)

A friend of mine used Universal Ministries online ( I think that is what it is called) and he signed up there, they sent him all the paperwork and he had to go to City Hall and sign in as a registered officiant of NYS. He did a wedding out in Montauk and it was all legit.

A good friend will be doing that same process for our wedding next October.

Do you know if they Used the Universal Life Church Ministries or just Universal Ministries? There are so many and they all have similar names! :(
