how to handle $$$?

Hi girls,
If you don't mind me asking, how will you and FH handle money -- split bills down the middle but keep $$ separate, have a joint checking acount, something else?

I don't know what to do. I'm much more organized and responsible with $$$ and right now (FH & I live together) our $$$ is separate. He gets paid in cash; I get a paycheck so I'm nervous that if we open a joint account, he'll take $$$ out but not put any in.

What should I do? Any ideas?

I'm in your exact same shoes as far as how we get paid. Right now, we have separate accounts and it might stay that way b/c he has a kid. I think that when we start making major purchases together, like another house or cars, etc. we'll have a joint account to pay for that. Also, all of our wedding gifts and engagement gifts will go into a joint account as well. Other than that, with regard to bills, he's responsible for some and I'm responsible for some and those get paid out of our own accounts.

We just opened a joint saving account, and money we've received as engagement presents so far were the first deposits made... but now i set up direct deposit where 80% goes into the savings and FH puts in 80% of his check. We have the family plan cell bill under my name so i pay that... and he pays for the things when we go out.
