How to tell a friend bad news

How to tell a friend bad news

Well tonight was my fitting, which should have been a great night. I love my dress, veil, etc. Here's the problem. A wonderful friend lent me her headpiece, and when I went to take out the bag with my shoes in it, it wasn't there. It's gone. FH and I have ripped apart the closets, the dressers, everywhere. All this time, since Sept., I have been thinking it was there in my closet with the shoes. I must have tossed it with the other bags, but I can't believe that I did it. I have to tell her what happened, and I am horrified, embarrassed, and ashamed. She got married last summer, and I know her headpiece was expensive. I feel sick. Any words of advice? I feel like I'm just going to have to come out and say it, I don't think there's any easy way. I am beside myself right now. She's got a little baby at home, so it's too late to call tonight. Don't think I'll get much sleep tonight.

Update: Thanks to all of you for your support and kindness. We talked today at lunch, and she could not have been nicer about it. She ended up trying to calm ME down, and said that from the way my voice sounded on her answering machine, she thought someone had died! I still feel awful, and am going to send her flowers tomorrow. What a great friend I have! Thanks again.

AWW IM SORRY THAT HAPPENED. YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO TELL HER WHAT HAPPENED. AS SUCKY AS THAT WILL BE. IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT, EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES AND OVERSIGHTS ESPECIALLY WHEN THINGS ARE HECTIC. I ONCE THREW OUT $700.00 IN CASH !!!!! THERE IS A REASON FOR EVERYTHING I AM SURE YOUR FRIEND WILL UNDERSTAND. I WISH I COULD HELP YOU FIND IT SOMEWHERE SORRY HONEY

Im sorry that that happened, but really there is no easy way to tell her. I would just tell her that you have no idea where it is and explain to her that you were really excited to use it...Im sure she will understand. Good Luck

AAwweee!! I know how you feel. My friend lent me a necklace to wear for a party once and it fell off my neck and I lost it! It took me several days to work up the nerve to tell her. I finally did, but to her surprise I bought her a similar one and she was so happy. She loved the one I gave her more than the other one! Definitely tell your friend. She won't hate you for being honest!

if you tell her this exactly as you just told us......she will be dissappointed yet totally understanding.
I don't think she'll be as upset as you thing.....I am sure that with all the details of her wedding day, her headpiece was not as sentimental as you think.
Just tell her exactly the way you told us. She will realize how upset you are and I really don't think its going to be too bad.
this stuff happens all the time......

Thank you all. I am going to call her today. Ugh, I just want to get it over with. I hope it goes better than I anticipate. Thanks again.
